what do ya think about this name?

we havent found out what baby is yet (next week, yay!)

but what do you think of Monroe for a girl?  i absolutely love it!  im really into the whole president thing.  my daughters name is Kennedi.  the Monroe thing works in two differant ways if you think about it.

Re: what do ya think about this name?

  • initial thought?  Not too hip on it, by my cousin's daughter is named Lincoln and I thought she was nuts when I found that out.  Now the little girl is 11 and I couldn't picture her being named anything else.

My thought on names is that no matter what you pick someone is going to have a negative opinion, but if you love it that is what counts.

We have officially decided to name our daughter Ryann Elizabeth.  I've heard both ways on that, mostly people think it is silly that I am adding an extra n, or that I'm using a boys name for a girl, but I love it.

My suggestion?  Have her middle name be something more common or basic.  We decided if our daughter ends up hating the name Ryann, she can always go by Elizabeth, Liz, Beth, etc.

  • I think I like it.  I keep saying it out loud and it's cute.  How does it sound with your last name?  I have to tell you I do think of the alleged affair between Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy when I hear the 2 together...

  • its NMS but as the pp mentioned, everyone isnt going to like every name. if you love it, you should use it.  im sure some people hate my DS' name! lol
  • Don't love it, but if you use it, at least spell it correctly (as you have here) since you decided not to do so for your other daughter.
  • I honestly don't like it and I think having a Kennedi & Monroe is a little cheesy...sorry, just my opinion.

  • My initial thought was that I liked it, and little edgy but I like it. Then you said that your DD was Kennedi, then it got a little creepy. Kinda like naming sibs Romeo and Juliet, you knda just don't want to go there with sibs and the brain usually makes the connection automatically when you hear the two names together.

     Sorry, JMO

  • thank you for input! i never thought about the Romeo, Juliet thing.  yeah kinda creepy.

i think unique spellings are a good thing. if you spell eveything the way your 'supposed' to there is no fun in life.  i just havent figured out a way to spell Monroe incorrectly.

  • If you like president names what about Reagan? Then you don't have the whole romeo & juliet dilemma.

  • Reagan is just way to commen, i hear it all the time, prob doesnt help im military and live in a huge military town.

if not Monroe i would like to use Mckinley, but spell it Makinley.  im just not sure if i like the Mc part, think it would sound better Ma.  and the middle name is deff going to be Jane most likely spelled Jayne.  a previuos poster said Lincoln for a girl but that is actually the name i picked out for a boy.

First, I'd have to say I'd agree with the whole Kennedy- Marilyn Monroe affair thing being kinda creepy when said together. But on the other hand, Monroe is the girl name DH and I have picked out also, but we have the spelling Monroh. Its a street name where we live and I love it. And I agree with different spellings- and that might possibly put a stop to the whole creep out factor when the names are written together. But I think both names are cute!

  • eww I really don't like it, and I don't like that you deliberately spelled the names incorrectly.
