We are not very religious but my MIL is..she goes to a non-denominational church..they don't do baptism they do blessings..it was very low key..we stood at the front of the church with dd, mil and my mom and the preacher just said a small prayer for her safe keeping and kept it very mild..it was actually very nice..and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all...
If you're not religious than what kind of alternative are you looking for? Something like a welcome to the family celebration?
The only thing I can think of is a dedication. Which is what DH's family believes in. But that's still with a religious attachment. It's a ceremony of dedicating to raise the baby in a christian environment. DH's family doesn't believe in infant baptism, so that's what they have in their churches.

SO and I are doing neither. We both used to be very religous and our families still are. I don't want to draw attention to the fact that we are not because I fear when they notice they may get angry or question and pressure. Good luck though!
We're not religious...and don't have plans for an alternative to baptism, what would be the point? MIL has other plans though and has told DH that she will "emergency baptize" LO (she's uber catholic)...let's just hope it's not in front of us. I grew up as a child of nature, I guess, and have asked my mom to "baptize" the baby with river water to counter act the holy water...ha.

Almost exactly this, I know my MIL will try to emergency baptize LO. If that makes her feel good then I don't really mind. DH and I are not religious. I am very spiritual but he was at one time religious and lost it. I was not baptized as a baby and I honestly wouldn't be able to stand at the front of a church and commit to raising my child in any religion.

There is no alternative to baptism (IMO). If you're not religious you have no need to baptize your child.
What exactly are you looking for?
This.
Are you just looking to show off LO?
