2nd Trimester

Has anyone been told this.....

After having my anatomy scan last Thursday (which we found out we, are team pink), I was told by my doctor that he is a little concern about the baby's weight because it is low. ?I am an average size girl, who eats all the time! ?They told me there is nothing I can do other than continue eating regularly and they will redo an ultrasound in 6 six weeks to monitor growth. ?I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced or been told this? ?Thank you for the help!

  • They told me our LO was measuring small(10 days behind), and I have to go back in 4 weeks. My Dr. isnt too concerned tho, she said the margin of error can be off by 2 weeks at this point. I am just trying to eat as healthy as possible for now.

  • First, CONGRATS on team pink! Our girl is amazing, and we are thrilled #2 is a girl too! As for the growth/weight issue, I have heard that (not personally, but here) and it seems *fairly* common, and not really cause for excess worry. Easier said than done, I know, but I recall a lot of girls saying they had to go back for growth u/s checks, and everything was always fine. Seems like you'll just get to see your little bean more often!

  • I don't know if this helps but at our big u/s we were told we have a marginal umbilical cord which can lead to small birth weights/small babies. Right now our baby is growing fine and measures normal but we go in every 4 weeks for an ultrasound and weight check. If it gets to the 3rd tri and she's small they'll most likely take her earlier because they can manage her weight better in the nicu. My OB says we have no higher risk for birth defects/still birth/anything like that. Just a small baby and possibly some nicu time. Try not to worry-I'm sure everything will be fine! (Although-I know worrying is all we do ;-) )

  • i am going to give you the SUPER abbreviated version of my experience w/growth concerns...this was a major concern for the ob & mw during my preg w/dd. so much so that i was being sent for constant u/s's and always in tears because i didn't understand what was going on! my fundal height kept slipping every time. They ended up inducing me at 37 weeks saying they thought she'd thrive externally. They prepped me that she may not even weigh 5 lbs. U/S techs feared she'd be a little person.

Welp, she was born 6lbs 10oz. 19.5" long and scored PERFECT on the apgar! She has been a super healthy infant and child and rapidly doubled her weight. She is currently in the 90-95% percentile for height! 75% for weight and 95% for height to weight!

stay positive! i know how hard it is!

  • Dr's are notoriously bad at knowing baby size before the baby is born.  It is not an exact science and they are really really off all the time.  I ignore all dr weight predictions on principle.  I say ignore that piece of info and do your best to eat healthy.

  • Is it just me or does delivering a "small" baby early seem like the stupidest logic on the planet?  As evidenced by pp trying to figure out baby size prior to birth is a highly flawed process so why would ob's risk the health of a baby who they think is small.  I mean wouldn't it be better for a 'small' baby to develop more than a 'normal' weight baby? prior to birth.  This seems like another instance of too much medical intervention to me.

  • At my 20 week with dd we were told she was measuring low - about 7 days behind. She was born a healthy 7 lbs. 10 oz. Keep eating healthy, get rechecked again... I am sure all will be okay. :-)
