Preemies

Poop.. might me TMI about LO.. ha ha

I so didn't want to call Pedi tonight, especially at almost midnight on a Saturday night.

We started LO on cereal last week.. she was fine.

Today she pooped an actual turd and will NOT stop crying.  I think she's really constipated and I don't really know what to do.  She is fine if we are feeding her.  She is okay if we bounce her on our knee.  She'll be quiet in the swing for about 5 minutes and that's it.

I tried rubbing her belly and she starting screaming.  It was obviously not helping.  She keeps spitting the pacifier out, so that doesn't work.

Poor LO.  :(  It wasn't a super hard poop, but it was not the normal semi-liquid shart poop she usually has.  It was a normal color too, otherwise I would have just taken her to the ER.  I told her if she doesn't stop that she is risking getting something shoved where the sun doesn't shine (enema time!) and she just looked at me and started cry/screaming.

Sigh.

  • Called Pedi.. she called back about 2 minutes later.  I love her.  So the cereal is out.  A couple of ounces of apple juice is in for tonight and tomorrow and if she's still all turds then we'll make an appointment on Monday.  LO is enjoying her magical seahorse right now and is fairly calm, fingers crossed it stays that way.
  • was it rice cereal or oatmeal?

Rice cereal got Robbie, but he did okay with oat.

Of course, he had trouble pooping for a while even when he was on breastmilk.. we had to use a glycerine suppository a number of times.

These days, he gets about an ouce/day of prune juice, but he's way bigger now.

  • Noah never could do rice cereal.  It always constipated him, oatmeal was much easier for him to handle.

  • My kids also had trouble with the cereals. When they got them I mixed them with prune juice so the poor kids wouldn't start pooping bricks.

I hope she's able to pass the poo soon!

  • It was the evil rice cereal.  LO stopped freaking out, so I know she's at least feeling a little better.  She liked the apple juice, we had some in the house.  I'm gonna get some prune juice next time I go to the store.  I still sick, so who knows when that will be.  Good thing the apple did the trick.
