I wouldn't, personally- most places suggest avoiding fumes/chemicals. Of couse, I have a super smeller thanks to being pg, so I probably wouldn't be able to even if I wanted to.
I'm really picky, so I didn't want DH to do it. He was so concerned that the fumes would hurt LO, though, that he wouldn't let me help. I've just tried to be very appreciative and not too picky about the spots that will be hidden by furniture. :-)
If you use Low VOC paint, though, it's supposed to be okay as long as you ventilate well.
I helped paint a little bit when I was pregnant with ds. We were doing the living room so it was big and well ventilated. This time around we have been doing some painting too, using the paint and primer in one from Home Depot. I can't be anywhere near it because it smells bad.
I did the baseboards and some trim. I tried to keep my distance when DH was painting but I would come in and peek here and there. The "safe" types of paint aren't really safe by the way. The paint department at Lowe's said once you add color to them it completely defeats the purpose and is just as dangerous as all the other brands.
Re: Painting Nursery
It is not recommended that pregnant women paint due to the fumes. DH painted DD's nursery with FIL.
Now, however, they have VOC free paints, which are better for the environment and are said to probably be safe for pregnant women to use.
This exactly.
