Yea I know this is not a new argument but wtf? I just don't get it. I see it now in some sigs. The kid crying on santa's lap. The kid crying b/c they don't want their picture taken.
Seriously? NOBODY wants a picture of your crying child.

That's quite the sweeping generalization that you are making.
<---has crying pic in sig.
I personally think that they are adorable and love to see them, my own included. I think that there are quite a few others out there who feel the same way.

I will add that I'm not a huge fan of making the child sit on Santa's lap while they're reaching for Mommy and screaming. I hate when I see that at the mall. I think it's rather scary for the child to be forced to sit on someone's lap when they're clearly saying they don't want to. I can still think of worse, though
Oh, crap. Well, thank for the PSA. I guess I should stop pinching my kid before I take his picture, then.
Honestly, nobody wants to MAKE their kid cry for a picture, but if they happen to be crying already AND you get a picture, it's so REAL and we've all be there. We can all sympathize with the miserable kid wearing a stupid birthday hat, and it tugs our heartstrings.
I think they are adorable (within reason, of course).
Seriously, you don't see what's cute about the puckered-up lip?? We tell our kids all the time that they should really learn to be less cute when they're sad, b/c it might get them what they want faster if they were able to be ugly and scare us into submission.
I personally think that they are adorable and love to see them, my own included.
Seriously though - what is adorable about them?
A mystery to you perhaps, but I happen to think that my kids look adorable no matter what they are doing, yes, godforbid, even crying. To each his own.

I have a crying picture of my oldest when he was an infant that everyone who sees it gushes over.
I had to give it to several family members, and got tons of "he's so cute" compliments on it when it was my sig here. So, I'm not sure I can agree with your "nobody" theory.

Of course my kids are adorable no matter what. We had a shitweek with everyone being sick. Lot of crying and yelling and ugliness.
This is not about utopia. It's just the 'lol - merry xmas - check out my crying kid' thing that I think is just WEIRD.

just for the record, this started as a wonderful santa experience - I have a nice picture too. It wasn't until I told BD that we have to leave to santa that he flipped.

But that's not what you said. You said that "NOBODY" wants to see crying kid pictures. It almost seems like you are backpeddaling now by simply calling them weird.

Toddlers don't know how to express their emotions properly. They are hot or cold and cry for crazy reasons. We all know that. Can you count how many times your kids cried today? Mine each did several times and today was a pretty good day.
One of Maren's cutest faces is when she puckers up right before she is about to cry. I don't know what it is, but it's adorable. Crying pictures can be cute. Like someone said, we've all been there, know that they aren't being tortured and probably understand the story behind the pics.
But that's not what you said. You said that "NOBODY" wants to see crying kid pictures. It almost seems like you are backpeddaling now by simply calling them weird.
Hmm. I guess people do want to see them then? Or people who post on the nest at 11pm on a Friday.
To me they are weird. Like it's weird to publish it as a 'cute' pic. But whatever. I'm just shitstirring.
eta: I really do think it's weird to look at a pic of a crying child and think it's cute. I'm shitstirring b/c I know my opinion is not popular on the nest. Land of spectacular children.

i fund them amusing depending on the situation. half the time dd's is b/c of some ridiculous tantrum. it' s the kind of stuff that isn't funny at the time but i can look back on and find humor in it.
I take tons of pics of DD crying. It's how she spends a lot of her time. I also think adults wish they could cry like 2 yos do. When does an adult ever get to make that face with the accusatory eyes, running nose, pouty lips? Never.

I do agree that on principle they annoy me and the whole, "look at my kid wailing! Isn't that hysterical???!!" thing is weird, but I have to admit that in spite of myself, some of them make my smile.
Amusing? Yes. If I didn't laugh at some of his tantrums, I'd be insane.
Whoever said that tantruming is a part of their child's life has the right idea. How could I not have pictures of that? It's not like everything in my house is so happy or picture perfect. It's something that happens, so yeah, I publish it - its a part of our lives.

now if the nest were truly the land of spectacular children, there'd be no such pictures. the crying pictures, for me, just make me go ahhh yes, so the meltdown is universal. and that's kinda why i come here to begin with parenting kinship so to speak. and they do cry. i personally like the pictures that show the nestie babies in whacky get ups, doing goofy things because that too is everyday life with a toddler.
Personally, I don't think pictures of kids crying are cute either. And some of the ones on Santa's lap look absolutely terrified. Do the parents think that is cute? I don't. JMO
I think plopping your kid on Santa's lap, when you know he/she is terrified, just to get a screaming picture is horrible. But don't think that's what normally happens..;I think parents are *usually* genuinely surprised when their kid pitches a fit, they snap a pic and then it's over.
Exactly. Before we saw Santa DD1 talked about it all morning, she was excited to tell him she wants a train, we got dressed all 'pretty' and waited for him to come back from his lunch break. On the way to his chair he stopped and talked to all the kids, including my kids. I put them on his lap, still ok - then I took a step away to get out of the frame and you can see what happened. It was for 5 seconds and then my mom grabbed one kid and I grabbed the other. ALL THE WAY HOME DD1 said she needed to go back to see Santa b/c she never got to ask for her train and every day she asks me if she can go back to talk to him.

Gee, it's not like I enjoy seeing my kid cry.
Originally, the only reason I ever used it as a sig was because it was "his reaction to the nest trend of Christmas light photos."

Eh, depending on the situation, I think it can be kind of funny.
GHM's siggy, hilarious. Same with Mominators.

You really love them and want us to post them all here? Ok, you win.
it's kinda funny, kind of sad. the 'child stares deep into the camera pic' gets a little tiresome, so yeah, let's show a few of the kid crying.
by the way, the pics I don't like (on FB) or pics of a kid's poop or pee. really. no thank you.
Seriously though - what is adorable about them?
