2nd Trimester

For those who relax their hair....

It's time for a touch up, but I've read conflicting information on whether it's safe to chemically straighten your hair while pregnant....what have you read, or did you doc have something to say about it?

Re: For those who relax their hair....

  • My doctor has not said anything about it, but I haven't asked either. I usually relax every 12 weeks and I am getting my next relaxer on Wednesday. I don't think it will hurt anything. Then again, I'm not a doctor. With my first daughter I was a chronic relaxer (like every 4 weeks), and everything was still fine.

  • My hair is short, so I have to relax every 4-6 weeks.  I was going to grow it out so I wouldn't have to relax so much, but I couldn't take the extra work of dealing with longer hair.

I'm getting my third relaxer since being pg tomorrow.  I've asked my doctor and stylist about it.  They both said to try to cut back, so I try to go 6 weeks instead of 4 weeks, but I can't really go longer than that.

  • I get mine done every 12 weeks and I've heard its ok after the first trimester. But just to be safe I switched to Paul Mitchell which uses a less intense relaxer (or so I'm told) than most.
  • I myself decided to go natural before I got pg, so I don't have any personal experience with this, but my sister relaxed her hair the entire time she was pregnant and everything was great.  She relaxed about 4-6 weeks.  But I do know that since your horomones are out of wack, it may not take the way it usually does.

  • I asked my doctor and he said it is fine.
  • I get mine done every 6 weeks (although I skipped it in the 1st trimester). My doctor said it was fine.

  • I asked my doctor about this and she said it was ok as long as you were in your 2nd trimester or more.
