Cyst?

Is it possible to have an ovarian cyst when you are pregnant? The last couple weeks I have had a pain in my lower right side, it comes and goes, but is very painful when it shows up. I've had several cysts before, so I know what they feel like. I just didn't know if that would be what it is now...

Re: Cyst?

  • A woman I work with had a cyst when she was pregnant. I don't know any more about her symptoms or what her dr said but i know that they monitored it and it is definitely possible to get one.

  • Im sure you can....could also be round ligament pain especially because it is on your right side and that is usually where RLP is....I would ask your doc for sure

  • I actually have two way huge cysts on one of mine. My OB isnt really worried about it right now. She says the chance of one ruptering (sp) during a pregnancy is so slim. I have pain when I contract but that is usually the only time.

  • Mine never went away.  I have a cyst on my left ovary and it has been there since before pg and hurts every so often still.  What I'm not sure is if you can develop one while pg...I wouldn't think so but plenty of odd things happen I guess...
  • It is VERY possible to have a cyst while pregnant, I had surgery to remove one and my right ovary at 20 weeks, be sure to have your OB check your ovaries via ultrasound, I had no idea that I had a cyst, no pain or anything. they found it at 8wks and it was already 8cm, eventually growing to 15cm, they may not rupture but can grow too large and casue torsion, or twisting over on itself cutting off blood supply to your fallopian tube, don't mean to scare you just want to inform you of all possiblities. • Thanks for your responses! Can I ask, for those of you who have them: is it a constant pain, or does it come and go? When I've had them before I could almost always feel it. This is more sporadic.

I know for sure it's not round ligament. I have that too, and it's an entirely different sensation!

  • At times I would have this nagging pain in my groin/hip area on the right side. I thought it was gas( didn't know I had a cyst at the time) bu the dr. told me that this could be a symptom, but it did come and go , never constant.
  • I have one on my right ovary also. They found it at my 8 wk appt during the ultrasound.  They're not sure if it was there before or because of the pregnancy, i can't remember how big it is, but it hasn't grown after 5-6 months and it hasn't caused me any pain at all. My doc wants to have it removed after the delivery, or if i have to have a c-section, they'll remove it then.  I was told that if i it torsions, then it would be a rather sharp pain, that would be non-stop.  I think mine was maybe about 8-9cm, but if yours is larger, you might be able to feel it more.

  • I had a cyst on my right ovary, which doctors thought from ultrasounds was a large, complex solid ovarian mass (scary because I have a family history of ovarian cancer).  The pain felt like an intermittent stabbing in my right lower quadrant.  I had surgery at 17 weeks, though four days beforehand I had torsion (very painful!).  Doctors removed what was left the cyst walls and sent it off to pathology, which said that the growth was a hemmorhagic cyst.
