drinking in front of your kids (no matter what age) whether it be in public or the privacy of your home. What about driving in front of your 12 y/o after 2 drinks?
I will have a drink or two in front of Ethan, be it at dinner or a social event.
But I wont' get drunk in front of him and I don't drive after having any drinks, period, until enough time has passed that it wouldn't impair my driving.

This. DH and I both will have drinks at home, and we never drink and drive.
I drink in front of my kids. They whine and fuss to have a drink of whatever I'm having because it's different but obviously I tell them it's a grown up drink. I've had a whole bottle of wine in front of them. I'm very impaired in the way of driving (only drink at home) but impaired in that manner while they're at the house but I can still function in a way that they aren't aware that mommy is stupid drunk. I could still wipe behinds when they go potty or clean up after dinner. I have to think about every move and I go very slow but I can do it!
to drinking in front of the kids. Hell, DS reminded me in the grocery store the other day "Mama, don't forget to buy some beer!" I'd much rather demonstrate responsible alcohol consumption vs. sheltering them from it. But no way on the drinking and then driving...especially with kids in the car.
I honestly don't think I have ever had a drink in front of DD, but I could be wrong. Usually when we go out, or stay home and have a drink DD is at her grandma's house for the weekend.
As for the driving I know for a fact that we never have, and never will. When we go out we bring enough money for a cab, or we go in a small group with a DD.
I drink in front of Jackson and as far as driving after two drinks, I don't know, b/c that really depends. I have no problem driving after a glass of wine + dinner, but would not drive after drinking 2 glasses of wine on an empty stomach or 2 cocktails.
When MH and I go out together, obviously one of us has to drive home and that means one of us doesn't drink out at all, or just has 1-2 drinks over a long evening [if it's a bar], or just one drink with dinner.
So I guess, it just depends.

Every time this comes up, I am always taken aback by the number of people [the majority for sure] that won't drive after drinking AT ALL. Like seriously? A glass of wine at dinner and you won't drive? It amazes me.
So if you go out to a fancy, nice dinner, with your husband you would really take a cab home if you each had a glass of wine or one of you wouldn't drink? It's mind boggling.

I answered above that we don't drink and drive. That said, when DH and I go out, which is basically never sadly, one of us will be the sober one. Meaning that you are limited to 1 drink with dinner or similar.

This is what I was thinking. We will drive if we've had a glass of wine or even two over the course of dinner.
I don't think drinking socially in front of kids is an issue at all, and I'm not a big drinker. That's at home or in public. I wouldn't ever want to get drunk in front of my kids. Won't happen anyway because alcohol tends to give me migraines, but still.
ETA: Oh, and I definitely wouldn't want to drive in front of my kids after drinking.

I drink a glass or two of wine in front of my kids regularly and think that's a good example of proper use of alcohol for them to see. I only drive after two drinks if they were spread out over the course of several hours and a meal. I'm pretty strict with myself in regards to drinking and driving because it's not worth the consequences. I know I'm fine an hour after one drink and wait more like 3 hours after 2. More than two drinks in a day and I wouldn't dream of getting behind the wheel no matter how I felt.

this... I have the occasional nightcap drink. but only 1. I would be tipsy if I drank more than one...I don't want to be tipsy in front of my kids.

I will drive after having a glass of wine/beer. However, I will not drink and then drive with the kids. MH was also the recipient of a DUI in college, so he's super careful about mixing the two now.

Me too! I can't even drink much without getting drunk, but I know I'm completely fine after one drink if I had it with dinner. You just have to know your limits.
I also think it's a double standard that you would have a drink with dinner and drive without kids in the car, but you wouldn't with kids in the car. Someone else is on the road with their kids. If you really think you're not able to drive with your kids in the car, you shouldn't be driving period.
Oh, and obviously I do drink in front of DD.
I would also like to thank AWD for allowing me to have an opinion on this topic. ;-)

I think it's perfectly acceptable to have a drink or two in front of your children, whether it's in the privacy of your home or at a social event.
However, I think it's unacceptable to get drunk in front of your children and drive with them in the car, after any amount of drinking.

yep
I don't mind having a drink or 2 in front of dd. But I don't really ever drink so it's a non issue. (dh will have beer with dinner on occasion).
However, I have an absolute rule that if I do have even 1 drink I do not drive.

NO GOOSE! You can't disagree w/ me.
Take it back. Right now. You must do exactly as I do.
