Hey, Is anyone making their own things for you baby's nursery? (wall decor, blankets, etc?) Money's tight right now for DH and I plus I really like taking pride in stuff I make or help make considering I'm kind of an artsy-craftsy (don't know if thats a word lol) kind of gal. I've already made letters that spell out his name to put on his wall, painted a wooden sign thing to also hang on his wall, made a picture frame with an ultrasound picture in it to go on the dresser, and crocheted a blanket. I'm a stay at home wife right now with a lot of time on my hands and any suggestions for more crafts would be awesome considering I get bored most days. Any ideas? If it helps I'm having a baby boy and the hubby and I have decided on a light blue/minty green/brown color scheme for his nursery.
Re: DIY nursery ideas??
Waaaaaaay back in first tri, I read about someone here making her own mobile. She used scrapbook paper cut into strips in varying lengths and attached them at each end... they were kind of diamond shaped except the sides were rounded. I hope that makes sense. I thought they were super cute. I guess you'd have to place them out of reach from baby because they aren't that durable, but its something visually stimulating for LO, anyway.
I've also seen pretty hanging things made from ribbon and those round wooden cross stitch holder thingies... :-)
Also - we saved a ton on bedding. I found some twin size bedding on sale at Target and my MIL altered it to be crib bedding. I spent about $60 on all of it and got tons of pillows and things from the leftover fabric.
Good luck!
I wish you would PIP your crocheted blanket! I'm working on one currently.
I made a bunch of adoreable burp cloths. You can get a 12 pack of white cloth diapers at walmart for cheap. Get some cute fabric and do a simple sewing stitch around the edges. Here's an example: https://www.etsy.com/shop/shopspottedelephant?section_id=6026549
Look up etsy.com for other ideas. Take a look at other stuff people make and sell, then do it yourself. I also bought super cheap iron-on appliques($2) on etsy and hand sewed them onto onesies. i like this seller: https://www.etsy.com/shop/RainFrogBoutique?ga_search_query=appliques&ga_search_type=&ga_page=5&order=price_asc&includes%5B0%5D=tags&includes%5B1%5D=title
This project is super easy and requires no sewing: https://www.make-your-own-baby-stuff.com/baby-wipes.html
If ur having a girl, these tutus are no sew, fast, cheap, and super cute! https://plumtickled.typepad.com/plumtickled/2007/08/tutu-tutorial-t.html
I hope this gets you started. I had my Martha Stewart phase around 29wks too. :-)
I am making all of LOs bedding. I have made the crib skirt (puppy paw pattern below), and I have the red/blue cut out to make the bumpers. I think I'll wait till after the holidays to start that.
I also have tons of fabric to make crib sheets (below). i will also start those after the holidays.
I plan on making LOs cloth diapers as well. I asked for a pattern for Christmas, so we'll see how that goes
