Cord stump poll

DD's Cord stump is hanging by a thread and its sooo gross!! I want to pull it off but I know your not supposed to.. Not to mention I can tell it would bleed and maybe hurt her... I have been patiently waiting for this thing to fall off but its determined to hang on!!! How long did your LO's hang on?

Re: Cord stump poll

  • ours held on for a month I thought he was going to go into adult hood with it..lol

  • that's exactly how our dd's cord was and dh just removed it (there was no way that i was going to do it)....nothing happened...no bleeding or anything.  i had to clean her belly button out with a q-tip.

  • I read it's okay to pull on it very gently or just move it side to side to help it loosen.

DS' fell off really soon, I odn't even think he was 2 weeks yet.  There was no bleeding or anything.  It fell off while he was sleeping and we never found it.  I suspect it just went into the trash with a dirty diaper or something.

  • Ours is still hanging on strong. The pedi put some medicine on it this week to help dry it up, or as she said  it would hang on for another month or so.

Ok!! I just asked DH to try to get it off!

  • well it probably would have lasted longer but DH accidentally knocked it off at 2 weeks because it was hanging there.  He literally freaked and I laughed my head off!  Boys...

  • 2 weeks- it was on during a diaper change, next thing we knew, it was gone.
  • DD was 8 days old when her cord fell off.

  • FYI- Make sure you continue to clean it with a q-tip and alcohol. DD had a similar situation. At first I thought it had gotten infected because it was kind of red, but the doc said it was just irritation. Also, once the majority of it fell off there was actually still some smaller pieces underneath that we needed to continue to dry out. (hence the alcohol and q-tip)

  • Dh just gently pulled it off but we will keep cleaning it with alcohol!
  • Alcohol works really well in drying in up.  DD's fell off in 2 weeks 3 days.
  • about two weeks. just let it fall off on its own...you don't want to risk an infection

  • DD lost hers after a week. It did bleed a little bit after it came off but I just kept it clean and now it's fine, no issues at all.
