Do you change immediately after a poop? and feeding ?

I am told you are supposed to, but with these guys sometimes they finally are sleeping and I hear some poop. I don't want them to wake up because then they won't go back to sleep. What were you told/what do you do?

Also, if you are alone and you are bottle feeding, do you feed one right after another or at the same time? I try at the same time but they can't support their heads enough and I feel like it's too hard for them to eat that way. I tried to put one in a boppy but I don't know how effective it is because they are pretty small. 4lbs and 6lbs

Any tips are appreciated!

  • i usually feed them at the same time- but my guys were never that small - so not sure what that would be like.  I put my one leg up on the couch and put one baby in the crook of my leg (is that the right term?) and then the other next to me in the boppy - so i have 2 free hands.  it is much easier now that they dont' need to be burped until the end --- when i had to burp in the middle i'd just make one baby wait while i burped the other - and hope they didn't fuss too much while waiting ;)

my guys rarely poop when sleeping... but if I knew they were pooping - i'd change right away... better to change and wake a baby than deal with bad diaper rash.   I don't change RIGHT away when i hear poop- i give them a few minutes to make sure they are done :)

  • Right now I have both guys laying in front of me on a pillow (heads and upper body on pillow and their legs are hanging off along the side of me - almost like a football hold) and I think I could probably bottle feed both simultaneously right now.  As far as pooping, I normally won't wake for a change, but right now they're still in that "you can't wake us up no matter what you do" phase that I can change them pretty quick.
  • I do not feed at the same time.  For me, personally, I feed one than the other.  Though at this point a feeding lasts about 10-15 minutes.  Though the few times I have fed them at the same time, I just put them either in their car seat or a boppy seat.

I usually change their diaper right before eating.  And if they are asleep when they poop (like A this morning) I will wait until they wake up.

That's what my husband did with bottle feedings, only using a boppy kind of wrapped around him.  He did that from the time we brought them home (at 4-5 pounds) until they grew too big for it!  Then we just moved the boppies to the floor & sat between them, and eventually they transition to laying on the boppies & holding their own bottles!

  • We fed all at once, we also changed diapers before we fed to reduce the amount of jostling them around after meals....this was a tip the NICU nurses gave us. We did/do change right away if someone poops, cuts way way way down on rashes.

  • Those first 2 months I would change them before and after a feeding.

For me it was really the only way I could wake them up enough to eat.

We went through a ton of diapers.

  • If they stay awake long enough I will change them but if they pass out and are sleeping soundly I don't disturb them to change them right away.

  • Yes, I always change after a poop;  at 3 weeks they should be able to go back to sleep.  Have you tried a swaddling and a pacifier?

I have fed both at the same time since birth.  I have two Fisher PRice Infant to TOddler rockers(or you could try any bouncy seat);  I recline them both back, sit in front of them, hold both bottles,  and prop one with a blanket when I have to burp the other.  Mine were 4.13 and 5 lb when they came home.  Good luck!
