DS had really bad cradle cap, and none of the remedies our pedi told us about worked (olive oil, dandruff shampoo, etc.). He was scratching at it and had scabs on his head, so one night before he went to bed I put some Vaseline on it to protect it from his nails. The next day when he woke up it looked so much better! I did the same thing the next night, and now his cradle cap is completely gone.
Just thought it might come in handy at some point!
Re: An FYI about cradle cap
Thanks for posting this! My DS still has it although it has gotten a lot better. I just spent $$ on an aquaphor wash to try but maybe I'll try the vaseline too.
The pedi said on Mon to use dandruff shampoo but I hate how medicinal it smells and the last time I tried it, it didn't improve the craddle crap at all.
my ds had very mild cradle cap when he was younger, a few flakes that rubbed off and that's it. it wasn't until around 6 months when he started getting a pimply looking rash on the top of his head. that's also when his hair really started filling in, and i think it was related to that. the pedi said it was still cradle cap and LOs could have it up to 12 months or so.
to pp, i haven't seen the aquaphor wash, but the ointment worked really well for DS. it's essentially vaseline with some other ingredients like lanolin, but i don't think it costs very much.
Thanks for the tip! You can also put hydrocortisone cream on cradle cap. I think its helpful to try a few different things and find one that works best because you cant "cure" it - it goes away on its own. I also thought babies didnt get it past 6 mos but I guess they can. Its called seborrhea and this link is helpful:
