I just had department meeting with all the supervisors about motivating and recognizing their employees. They do NOTHING right now. Freaking figures why their employees gripe the way they do. Then you had the one odd ball who said "I work for cash, not recognition". I really don't like him.

Yeah, now I have to run it by upper management. What they want is a department luncheon at least once a year. Catered would be preferred, so we will see how that goes. I don't think it is too much to ask.
I was in HR for several years. We had an employee recognition board that was updated any time we got positive feedback from our customers. It also had birthdays, anniversaries, and births listed on it.
My people loved it!
Sometimes you just can't win though. I gave out $30K between six employees in bonuses last week plus am sending them (and their spouses) on a week long cruise to the Caribbean (including airfare, tips, and an extra week of paid vacation time) in January and you know what? I still had to listen to one of my staff b!tch that he's getting taxed on the cost of the cruise. Nevermind that I *tried* to expense it but my CPA's pointed out a bit of the tax code that specifically prohibits writing off CRUISES. Nevermind that I'm bending over backwards to try to be nice. Still b!tch because you're being taxed on it. F*cking ungrateful a$$hole!
Wow. I feel better now. I guess I've needed to get that out for a while.
