I plan on really working through the 1,102,258,954,387 digital photos have. Right now, they are just saved on my computer by month. I don't have them labeled with what they are or more specific dates.
How do you label and organize? Once I have tackled the labeling, I will transfer to my external storage options...
Re: Digital photos - How do you organize?
Folders my month and date, and for special outings (trip to the zoo)
Mine are by date and I transfer them to cd. I hate having them on the computer. I do this with my printed pics but I go through them and delete bad pics or anything that is just not something I want to keep. it gets rid of alot.
what is your external method once you organize?
I use iphoto so I organize by folders, by month. Sometimes, if it's a special occasion or vacation or something, I'll create a subfolder.
Next week, I plan on going through all the pics I have and getting rid of the ones I don't want to keep. I do this every year because my files tend to be huge.
I back everything onto an external hard drive, as well as CDs
CDs and I also back up on my external hard drive. I upload my absolute favs to shutterfly and put them into photo books.
I could only wish I had your system... forgive my ignorance, but how do you print out the thumbnail page of what's on the cd?
Oh, no problem. I open up one folder at a time where the pictures are, hit "control + A" to highlight all the pictures and there is a print button at the top in the menu bar. When that window opens up, to the right, there are different options on how to print the pictures and the last one is "contact sheet". I staple all the sheets together of which one is on the CD. It seems like a lot at first but you get the hang of it and keeps things organized. The only way I stay on top of this is when I download the pictures after so many days of using the camera into certain named folders anyway or else I'd be lost! lol.
Oh, I knew that! This will be especially helpful when trying to find just that *one* picture. Thanks for the tip!
