Clicky poll to settle a debate between mh and me

Re: Clicky poll to settle a debate between mh and me

  • YUP! We have one, I grew up with them in the house- my Dad worked at the Sheriff's dept. I was taught to respect guns and know that they hurt/kill people-and you can't undo it. We will teach DC's the same thing.
  • ah, yes...the great gun debate! =P  I was raised with guns in the house, as protection.  Most of my family owns guns for protection as well.  However, we will never own a gun.

I do support people's rights to bear arms.

    This.

We have a small arsenal. DH is a gun collector.

  • I voted "No, and we will never have one" but that's not entirely accurate. But, the next choice ("No, but we will have one in the future") isn't necessarily the case either.

In general, I'm uncomfortable around guns and don't see the need for one. We have no plans for getting a gun at any point in the future, but at the same time I don't want to say "Never" either. There are certain situations in which I could see *possibly* owning a gun.

So really, I fall in the "Would rather not have a gun but would consider one if the need should ever arise" catagory.

  • DH has a variety of guns for target shooting (not hunting) and we also have one for home protection.  His guns are stored locked and unloaded in a dual-lock (combination and key) safe.  Our home protection one is stored in a small fingerprint safe for DH & I.  *Never ever ever will DS be allowed entry into either safes*   But we will give him lessons when he is old enough and responsible.   We are both licensed and take home safety classes every other year.

  • I was also raised with Guns in the house, and we have taught our DD gun safety. We have it at the top of our closet, unassembled, and in a lock box. DH and I are both prior military, and can assemble the gun in about 15-20 seconds.

  • Never ever in our house.

I've had a gun pointed at me a couple of times in my life and I'm terrified to even LOOK at one now!

Dit-to.  We have guns.  We're Southerners...so we, uh, cling to our guns and religion or something to that effect.

  • We have several hunting rifles in the house (locked in a gun cabinet, bolted to the crawlspace wall behind a locked crawlspace door that were my deceased FIL's.  We have no ammo in the house, never had any.  My husband has never used the guns (FIL died 16 years ago).

I would rather not have them at all, but they are sentimental to my husband, so in the crawlspace they remain.

promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I didn't vote, bc none of those choices were really accurate for us. H was a police officer for 5 years. Recently left the PD but is still military. The guns we have in our home were career weapons only. I don't like them and didn't want them in my house. He, however, grew up with a police officer father and always had them in their house. We had to find a compromise. Other than that, his hunting rifles are kept in a safe in the garage.

  • Snowflake: None of the above.

Yes, handgun for target practice. Kept locked in a safe with no ammo in the house.

Right now we have none - if MH gets his way and we do get one, it will be like EM said.
