so i took an aerobics class at the gym today for the first time in a month and i pulled my freaking neck SO BAD. Ahhhh! WWYD? im already self medicating with wine and plan to take aleve before bed. UGH.
Hope it is just muscular. I have a herniated disk in my neck. It is very inflamed. I often lose feeling in my arms and sometimes have an intense pain across my back, like contractions, but they don't stop. If you have the tingly feeling in your arms or you can make the pain go away in certain positions, don't wait, make an appointment with an orthopediac doc. I am not currently a candidate for surgery. I do some self medicating, but also have a tens until, pain killers, muscle relaxors, spinal injections, and a neck brace, like you see in car injury commercials. It's classic.

gosh im sorry, that sounds awful. i dont have any of that, but i do feel like my peripheral vision is a little off. but maybe that's the wine! my mom has a herniated disk and i have had to help her get dressed even in bad times. i know how much it sucks!
Re: i hurt my neck!! what should i do?
do NOT use heat.
Ice it and take some ibuprofen to help with any inflamation.
You need to use ice during the first 24-48 hours to decrease inflamation. Just like you would ice a swollen ankle, you ice a "swollen" muscle.
Heat will make the inflamation worse, thus making it hurt more and take longer to heal.
I wouldn't do the heating pad until tomorrow night, maybe even Thursday night.
Oh, and avoid trying to "stretch it out", just rest it. Once you start heat you and try to do some easy stretches.
