How long for 3 hour schedule?

LO is on a 3 hour schedule and sometimes I feel so guilty waking him for a bottle, especially if it is after a long wakeful period where he just fell asleep a short time before.

He is doing good with feeds, he is at almost 3oz every 3 hours and is gaining weight.

What did your doctors recommend?

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Re: How long for 3 hour schedule?

  • I was told we could let him sleep up to 4 hours.  Cooper has the onesie that matches your LOs outfit- I love it!

  • Our pedi had us wake him every 3 hours for the first 2 weeks at home (which corresponded to 2 weeks adjusted).  After our 2 week appointment, she said we could let him take the lead, but not let him go more than 5 hours.  I'd ask your pedi!

  • What's his current weight?  His adjusted age?  How I personally would feel about it would depend on those two factors, taking into consideration what your pediatrician has recommended....
  • we were told to wake simon if he goes more than 4 hours without eating.  once he reached 10lbs or so and showed a steady weight gain, the pedi said we could feed on-demand.
  • I have a doctors appointment on Friday and plan on asking him, I just wanted to get a sense of what the answer might be before going. Right now he is taking close to 3oz on the bottle and is over 5lbs (his last weight check was last week and weighed 5lbs even). He is 3 weeks old and was born at 35.5 weeks.
