What are you guys still able to do?

Here is why I ask... I am a stay at home mom so I don't have to go to work.  But I have a 14 year old and an 8 year old who are right in the middle of basketball season.  The 8 year olds games are close to home but the 14 year old's are anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours away.  And he plays jv and varsity so I usually have to set through 2 games.  I'm trying to keep up with Christmas and I have done nothing to get ready for the babies.  I feel nautious and suffocated 75% of the time and my back has completely quit me.  I walk around like a 90 year old woman because of the pain in my lower back.

So I really want to cut back on going to some of the games but I know that after the babies get here I won't be able to go to any.  So my question is am I wussing out waaaayyyyy to early.  It seems some of you guys are still working full time, taking care of toddlers and still getting your house cleaned!  So I guess my question is... are you guys still keeping up with it all or are you waving the white flag yet?  Or when did you wave the white flag?

Re: What are you guys still able to do?

  • I stopped working at 27w and took it VERY easy for the next 11 weeks - made it to 38w.  My toddler was in daycare full time and when home, my DH took care of him for the most part- tood care of the house, etc. I did pretty much nothing but hang out on the couch, did one constructive thing in the house each day (like put away laundry, etc) and left the house once/day for something short - like going to the grocery store for 1/2 hour, or to a movie or out to lunch where i'd be sitting the whole time.

I certainly would not drive 2 hours away - unless you are prepared to deliver in a hospital 2 hours from your house- you need to stay close to home now. I'd have your son's teammate's parents drive him if needed.

you can bring the babies to games! I would- just keep them in the carriers and covered. I took all 3 of my babies out when they were about 5days old.

I know that far in my pg i could not sit on a bleacher watching a game for more than 1/2 hour - my butt/baack would be killing me. I would probably stop going- or just go for the last 1/2 hour, etc.

  • Congrats on making it this far!  By the time I was at 29 weeks i'd been on bedrest for 5.

If your body's telling you to stop or slow down, it's time.

  • Just in the last week I have noticed I can't do as much as I could.  Maybe its because DH was out of town for the week and I have a toddler and taking care of my mom (who is like a second toddler who nags me to death)

But yeah, I really haven't done a lot in the last few days, but at night, laying in bed, I'm getting lots of contrax, feeling really queasy again and am just very uncomfy.

Now that DH is back, I'm really going to try to take it easy for a few days and see how I feel.  I'm pretty close to waving that flag though...

Hang in there, we aren't too far from the finish line!!

  • Everyone is different and I think your doctor and how your body reacts to pregnancy is a big indicator of what you can still do.

For me, yesterday was my first day off of work throughout my entire pregnancy.  I am scheduled to be induced on Thursday and finally had to throw in the towel on Friday because of severe groin pain and discomfort.  But up until then, I was able to continue to work and even traveled 5 hours round trip for meetings at 30 and 34 weeks.  But again, this worked for me and was approved by my doctor.

I completely agree with listening to your body. I had days where I got so tired or had some regular BH contractions so I would take it easy and rest when I needed to.

  • I've been doing good still. Today was my last day of work, but mostly because I had to decide 2 months ago when I was going to stop. I could probably still work, but am so glad to be done because I am really tired after a days' work.

I am a big believer in listening to your body. Everyone is different. If your body is telling you to slow down, please slow down. It is the best thing that you can do for your babies, yourself and your kids.
