the last 24 hours have been yuck-o-la. first of all, i got fired from my main job (i have three, all pretty much part time). after working at this dental office for almost 3 years, my boss fired me because an insurance check was missing and cashed, she assumed it was me since i work at the front desk, and fired me. no questions, no discussions. of course, she let me work a full day and then canned me at the end of the day. i have no idea what happened to the check, and since there was no opportunity for me to try to defend myself, i left. hindsight being 20/20, she was intervewing applicants for another position in the office and im wondering if she found someone that could do my job cheaper and someone that wasnt going to be taking an extended leave in a few months? i dunno... (sorry if that was kind of rambling). the good news that stems from this is i also work at a spa (which is super close to my house). the owner has been begging me to take over as spa director full time so she can be totally hands off. its less of a commute, around the same pay, and i can bring the baby to work with me when things are slow.
the other piece of good news i got was at my dr appointment this am... at 21 weeks, ive only gained 11 pounds total! (i really thought i was going to be up around 17). im super stoked about it! down side to the doctor appointment was that im rotating all the associates in the practice so i can meet all the doctors, and the one i had today was not very friendly at all... ugh. cant win em all.....
thanks for "listening". i was literallly tossing and turning all night over the job situation... which got me about 3 hours of sleep....
Re: a bit of bad and a bit of good (kind of long)
As cliche as it is everything happens for a a reason. That sucks about dental job but sounds like the spa job is perfect! Congrats on that. As for the ob rotation I hear you on that one....so far there has been one dr that I really didn't care for. I guess one of the drawbacks of a larger practice.
Not sure if this is worth it to you or not but you could report the dental office to your state department of labor for them to look into. Doens't sound like there is evidence that you cashed the check...which has led to wrongful termination.
At least working at a spa during your pregnancy will grant you some discounts to various beauty products and services. With you being the director, I wouldn't doubt that some employees would even do it for free! Now that would be a perk if it happens.
It's crappy that employers can't discriminate against you because you're pregnant, but if they want to, they can find another reason at the drop of a hat. It's not too difficult for them. It seems that it worked out for you anyway, though it still sucks to get fired.
Your boss accused you of theft. I'd demand an investigation and proof, as this is your reputation and career, and if she truly believes/believed you stole from them, and committed fraud, she could press charges.
I'd tell her you take this accusation very seriously, and want her to get a copy of the cancelled check from the insurance company to prove YOU STOLE it. If she refuses, I'd let go to the practice owners (assuming that's not who fired you) and tell them their employee's actions are opening them to a legal liability of making false theft accusations. Tell them that if they wanted to fire you for other reasons (pg, other candidate, whatever) that's no less poblematic, but at least it's not accusing YOU of a CRIME.
?
This. I definitely wouldn't let it slide...?
