Trying to Get Pregnant

BBT Question

This cycle I've been pretty good at taking my bbt at the same time each morning, before talking or getting out of bed.  The only problem is that my DH is a very light sleeper (he comes to bed at 3 a.m. most nights and sleeps until 11:00 a.m.) and the beeping of my thermometer is driving him crazy (he is a sensitive fellow).  I told him that next month I'd try to figure something else out.  Here is my question... If I got up each morning at the same time and walked the exact same distance to my living room to take my temp, would that work?  Wouldn't the fact that each temp was skewed by the exact same exertion keep my chart somewhat accurate?

Re: BBT Question

  • Wow.  I would remind my husband that I am taking this temperature in order to make a baby with him, and he can put up with the beeping.  How's he going to react when you have a screaming baby waking him up?

  • It won't be accurate. ?I would just tell him to wear earplugs.
  • Your basal body temperature is the temperature of your body at rest-- not after you walked to your living room.  Even if you are consistent in walking to the same place to temp, then it won't be your basal body temp that you are measuring. Getting up to temp defeats the purpose of taking your BBT.

  • I take mine in the bathroom Embarrassed  (Not a popular choice)

I tried leaving mine on the night stand but I'm in such a fog when I wake up that I would always forget.  The first thing I do without thinking is walk 5 steps to the bathroom.  I am still able to see a shift in temps.

  • Could you put your pillow over your head just while you?re taking your temp?  It would muffle the beeping sound.

Sometimes if DH is watching tv in bed, but I want to go to sleep, sometimes I?ll put the pillow over my head to just block out the sound and light.  I can definitely still breathe.

....or put a pillow over DHs head.

  • Thanks for the responses.  I'll try taking it in the bathroom (also five steps from the bedroom) and see if I can see a temp. shift next cycle.  If I can - great and problem solved.  If not, dh and I may have to revist this issue.
