Any Dr bills negotiating tips???

My insurance decided to take back their payments for my ultrasounds that were around my IUI time a couple months ago b/c they don't cover the IUI.

Now I get to call the doctor's office and try to negotiate down my $1500 bill that they said would only be around $500.

Any tips before I call?

Be persistent.  They do have negotiating room.  And if all else fails...play the sympathy card??

do you have a copy of what they let the insurance pay?  those costs are usually a good indicator of what they might accept... and are ususally lower than the private pay costs...

also, you doctor might recode them and say they were not iui related.....
