What is your weekly food budget?

I posted below about Trader Joe's. We were able to do our weekly shopping for half the price we would spend at a large grocery store 2 minutes from our house. I'd like to keep our food budget to around $100 - not including meat, or diaper. We have a local meat whole sale store near our home and spend about $150 every two months. We eat 90% of our meals at home and we also take our lunches daily during the week. What's your budget?

Re: What is your weekly food budget?

  • Ours is 400/month, so about 100/week.  That doesn't include household stuff (paper towels, lightbulbs, etc- we budget another 50/month for that kind of stuff).

We don't have a problem sticking to it.  We don't eat fancy food, mostly in season produce, etc.  We do buy organic milk and eggs, though, and all whole grain stuff, so we eat pretyt healthy- just not fancy (ie no steak, no pricey seafood).

We eat out 1/week max and pack lunches.

  • I like to keep it under $100 for everything, including diapers, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. It is much easier now that DS just wears diapers at night.

  • $200 for groceries

Our weekly bill is usually this.

  • I spend between $400-$500 per month. The bulk of that is the first week of the month when I buy all of my meats and non-perishables. The rest is spread out over the rest of the month on things like milk, diapers, fruits and veggies, etc.

  • About $200 a week.  I'm amazed people can do it for less!  I guess gluten-free food can get pricey though.

Yah, but you have 5 people who eat, vs. 3 for us.

  • I would say on average $200 a week and there are only three of us. That includes meat and everything but diapers. We spend almost $30 a week in organic milk. DS and DH drink it like crazy!
