Anyone following the "No White Food" diet?

Since my RE called me last week and told me I'm pre-diabetic and put me on Metformin, I've been following the "No White Foods" diet.  It's been going pretty well except I'm looking for some new snacks I can have.  I'm a little tired of salads for lunch and dinner every day and fruit and nuts for breakfast.

Any ideas for low/no carb snacks?

  • i did south beach for about 3 months and for snacks I ate:

    *PB and celery sticks

    * cheese sticks

    * nuts

    * ham/cheese rolls (just took a piece of ham and rolled it around a piece of cheese

    * ricotta with splenda and cinnamon

    * low carb wrap with PB and 1tsp of choco chips (felt like a GIFT)!!

  • My dh was pre-diabetic by self diagnosis. his blood sugar level was 400 something. His dad is diabetic and dh was a bit overweight. Not obese at all. I put him on a mostly protein diet and NO Sugar at all!!! He dropped the weight fast. I bought him protein bars for breakfast, made egg salad sandwiches, chicken salad, tuna salad. Changed all whites to wheat. I bought him sugar free jello, pudding, cookies etc...he didn't mind. He was 250 something in June and now he's 218.

  • I am doing a no "white" carb diet/ no refined sugar diet.

    So stirfry with brown rice and veggies and chicken  or this week I am going to make stuffed peppers with brown rice and ground turkey.

    also any lean protein with sweet potatoes are really good

    As for snacks nuts, cheese and apples are pretty much what I am sticking with.  Pretty boring, but apples with peanut butter is good.  Or I also like to eat red peppers with hummus.  Actually I love all veggies with hummus.

    avocados are really good as well, so you can make quacomole and eat veggies with that.  or I bet whole wheat pita might be okay.

    I know that it is tough!  I am always looking for different ideas.  good luck!!

  • that is pretty much my normal diet. Ive been eating that way for years except for special occasions. My suggestions are pretty much the same as the others. apple w/ pb, whole wheat pita with hummus or carrots/celery w/ hummus. turkey and cheese roll up, one egg omlete w/ veggies. whole wheat wasa w/ pb or hummus. If you can find it - brown rice sushi - the rolls w/o cream cheese or mayo - just raw fish, brown rice and nori.

  • I have been on SBD for 4 months..

    for snacks- I eat turkey pepporoni w/ cheese...smoked salt free almonds, string cheese...

    for meals we eat everything as before..no rice at all or pastas, bread or couscous..DH makes it for himself but I don't eat it. Then I take the leftovers for lunch the next day..we make our own breakfast sausage links w/ fresh gorund pork. That way we don't get all the fillers, and fat..

    This sums up my diet very well.  Sweet potatoes are my friend though not that easy for snacks.  They do that the prewrapped ones you can just stick in the microwave and putt butter and cinnamon on.

    I also have lots of sugar free pudding and ice cream bars that are good.  If you need something sweet, I highly recommend the sugar free dark chocolate godiva bars.  They are amazing.
