one syllable first and last name?

Our last name is one syllable and have several options for one syllable first names....I think its ok as long as the middle name has multiple syllables...thoughts?

Re: one syllable first and last name?

  • Plenty of people have both first and last names with one syllable. I think it's fine.

  • My husband loves short, choppy names with our 1 syllable last night.  I think its kind of cool.

I agree.  I don't think anyone would even give it a second thought.  I never do.

  • I love it.  Nice and simple.
  • its fine

Just make sure it sounds good with your last name, because often those in that situation are called by their first and last names instead of just their first.

This made me smile because I knew a girl named Jane Han and we almost always called her Jane Han.

I think having a one syllable name for first and last is fine.

  • I agree that it is fine. A longer middle name would balance everything out.
  • It really depends on the names IMO. Some combos sound fine, but I think most sound too short and choppy.
  • I think it's totally fine. I think it gets strange sounding when you have a long mult-syllabled first and last name, but short ones always work (IMO).
  • I think it is fine.  My DH has a one syllable first and last name and No MN, his name is very short, but it sounds just fine.

  • IMO there's nothing wrong with one-syllable first & last names.  But, DH & my MIL are both very much against it -- my married name is one-syllable.

That said, using a middle name to "balance" it out doesn't make much sense when most people are called by only their first & last.

    Ditto this.

We have 1 syllable first names on our list with our 1 syllable last name. As long as the names don't blend together together to form a word or sentence (Reed Moore), it should be fine. Yes
