I am a huge fan of making a name your own with a different spelling. My son's name is Shawn, but we spelled it Sjon (it's norwegian). Although through his school years it has proven to be very difficult for him, I think that he will appreciate the uniqueness of it when he is an adult. So Then when my daughter came along of course I have to be difficult & not spell her name the traditional way either. But hers is much easier, it's Mackenzie. It c omes with it's own challenges though because everyone wants to spell it McK, or MacK. So now another one is on it's way & I have decided on the name Mackenna for a girl. (it will be a junior if it's a boy, so changing the spelling isn't an option there)
So my question is - how many ways can you spell Mackenna???
Re: different spellings
I think that's how you usually spell Mackenzie, right?
I would spell DD #2 Makenna or Mckenna, because I am not a fan of weird spellings. But I'm sure you could make a crazy spelling if you really want to. Muhkynnuh?
Spelling aside, here is my unsolicited advice on your names: I don't like the two girls being named Mackenzie and Mackenna - they are too similar.
Regarding naming your second son after your husband, I think that is a bad idea too. I know a family where the second-born son is the junior, and I really think it bothers the first-born. The first-born should really always be the junior.
Sorry to be so negative, ignore me if you don't care what I think about the names, but I thought I'd play devil's advocate.
I think Mackenzie and Mackenna are wayyyyy too similar.

Ditto.
This. Your kids will be given hell through school. Except for Mackenzie because her name is perfectly normal.
I agree with all of this.
Also, you should know you're kind of in the wrong place if you like making up spellings. The majority of the ladies here are not a fan, myself included.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
ditto all of this
I'm fairly certain that Mackenzie is the traditional spelling. If you wanted to be weird, you would have spelled is McKenzie. Just sayin'.
As for Mackenna, way too close to Mackenzie. Maybe instead of trying to by unique by mis-spelling your kids' names, you should pick a name that is uncommon but not weird and easy for everyone to remember. Like Imogen or Jocelyn.
Wow
So many things going on here
Two children from the same family named Mackenzie and Mackenna is BAD. Terrible. Try a different prefix
Misspelling a common name to make it more "unique" is silly. It's exactly the same name, it's just spelled WRONG. it makes you look ignorant and gives your child much more of a headache than it could possibly ever be worth. BAD
Using a cultural spelling if you are honoring your heritage is totally fine by me. I'm not sure if you or your dh are Norwegian, but if not that's just a little crazy. If you want to name your kid Sean, name him Sean or Shawn, really now.
Sorry if this is harsh, but c'mon!
The reason my first son isn't a jr is beacuse the first two are from a different marraige. And I have been worried about the two girls names being so similar too. My problem is that I can't find a lot of other "M" or "S" girls names that I really like (we are sticking with those two letters because of the rest of the family names & I really don't want the baby to be the odd one out).
And as far as feeling sorry for my kids - well, really, there are worse things I could do than spell their names a little differently, Don't you think?
Also, Sjon is a Norwegian name and he is proud of his heritage. It's Not spelled WRONG, just differently. It was also not a name we made up or had to search for, we met several people with that name while I was pregnant.
And if Mackenzie is the "proper" spelling - why do so many people spell it "wrong" when I tell them her name? Just wondering.
So sorry to bother everyone with my name question, I thought this being the "Baby Names" board it was the appropriate place to ask my question.
