Getting a lot of pressure to travel for holidays...

This is the convo I just had with my father...the same convo we've had twice earlier.

Dad- Are you coming to Iowa with us for Xmas

Me- I dunno dad, it will depend on DH's work schedule, which doesnt come out until a week before.

Dad- Your grandma isn't doing too well...sure would mean a whole lot if you were there.

Me- I want to go, but even if we can drive down there xmas eve and come home xmas night )4 hr drive, mind you), I just dont think theres enough room now that there are 3 of us...

Dad- I'll get you a hotel and pay for it (and by hotel, he means Super 8)

Grr. LO has never been in a car for more than 20 mins., ..idk how he would do a 4 hr drive 2x in 48 hrs. He is super used to his 7pm bedtime routine and gets MESSED UP when we aren't able to do it. We dont have gifts for anyone except my dad, and pics of LO for grandma....As horrible as it is, a teeeensy part of me hopes that DH has to work Xmas eve pm shift and we have to stay home and order pizza have it be just the 3 of us (DH and I travel for EVERY holiday....both our parents are divorced, bleh)

  • I bet he'd do fine. Plan it around naptime. I personally love visiting family, though. Not much is more important than family in the long run! Do what works for you guys, though. We don't give gifts, so I wouldn't worry about that. People understand.
  • We travel a lot.  Only being 2 hrs from my family but we go there way way more than they come here.  The boys do good.  Usually they sleep and then are ready to play.  Now that we are having three kids in March we probably wont travel as much bc we have to do the traveling and the packing.  Hopefully whatever you choose you will be happy.

  • I get it...my parents are divorced, too, so we travel a LOT for holidays.  BUT, for Christmas we stay home.  Everyone is invited to come by our house to visit (everyone is just over an hour away) but we don't go anywhere on that day. It's sooooo nice!

  • I would talk to your  husband about what you guys want to do first.  It is your holiday too and both of you should be able to enjoy it however you want.  Truly you are.  If you want to stay at home than stay home working or not.
