General things to remember- for babysitter

MIL is babysitting DS overnight tomorrow night. I have the emergency numbers list up, but I'm trying to come up with a list of little reminders like not putting blankets in the crib, not microwaving the milk to warm it, etc. What would you put on your list? She's been acting fairly clueless, she flipped out yesterday wondering how she would check on him at night unless she turned on the light in his room... so now I have added "turn on nightlight" to the list.

Re: General things to remember- for babysitter

  • i would be careful with how you word it...instead of "don't do this" say, "put the bottle in a glass of warm water" or " when putting LO to bed, put him in sleep sak and rock to sleep" or how ever you do things. That way you aren't being condescending!

Good luck, leaving LO overnight is very difficult to do! I called my sister so many times and texted an even crazier amount!

  • Don't forget to add your address on the list just in case.

Reminder to put him to sleep on his back.

  • I made a similar list for those who watch our DD. Items on my list beyond what you already have:

    1. back to sleep (not on tummy)

    2.  no baby powder for diaper changes

    3. when a temperature is an issue

    4. how often to feed (my MIL, bless her heart, would give DD a bottle every time she cried)

  • *Only lay baby on back to sleep

*Make sure to put diaper rash cream on bottom with last diaper change

*DO NOT let him "taste" anything other than (whatever foods you okay) - I say this b/c FIL let DS "taste" his tangerine juice the other day Hmm and who knows what else that I don't know about

*If you FF, make sure she knows how to properly make a bottle (water first, then powder).  Also put notes about proper bottle handling, such as after baby drinks out of bottle must be discarded within 1 hour.  Must refrigerate pre-made bottles.  These things are common sense to us...but not to grandparents (who haven't had to deal with these things in quite awhile).

Try not to worry.  Babies are very resilient and I'm sure he'll be just fine!

  • i would remind her not to SHAKE the bm.

i just found out my mom was doing this when she watched ds after i had specifically told her not to. i was kinda pissed

  • Yeah, the last time she warmed a bottle it was an 8 oz. bottle and she was warming it in about .5" of water, needless to say it took FOREVER. So I will definitely be specific! Definitely the back sleeping thing, and we don't use formula so that won't be an issue, but I will put a note not to bash the frozen BM bags around as well. I will be burning up my text plan for sure!
