I'm down to the last major thing we need on our baby registry and of course it's the stroller. We've registered for a travel system, but now I'm starting to second guess that idea. Any pros and cons on travel systems vs. standard and probably cheaper strollers?
Re: To Travel System or Not to Travel System . . .
They are just too big and bulky for me.

Did/will you get a carseat that works with one? I just seems so much easier to me. Yeah the stroller is bulky, but it is all done and you have a stroller you can use with a baby!
we registered for and received the Graco Quattro Hamilton Travel system and I love the car seat/stroller combo. It came highly recommended to us from a few friends who are recent parents...
I'm a big fan of travel systems, but it really comes down to personal preference.
While the stroller may be bulkier than non-travel system ones, it easily fits into the back of our SUV and I don't find it to be heavy at all. I also love the convenience factor of the car seat/baby carrier. Our winters are extremely cold and snowy here, so I'm glad I can just leave the baby, especially as an infant, all snuggled up in the seat when I need to go somewhere.
Travel system seems too big, bulky, expensive and impractical for us. We did the Graco snap n go and a graco snugride carseat and so far I love it - no baby yet though.
It is so lightweight and it was very cost effective. When LO grows out of this, we will invest in a stroller that fits our needs at that point. I also plan to wear LO in a wrap or a sling a lot while out and about.
I think they're to bulky and heavy. However, the stroller and car seat i got can actually hook together.
here's a link to the stroller we bought and it has a matching car seat.

This is what we've registered for too. I'm just getting mixed reviews as far as it being too bulky/heavy to it being totally useful. My favorite part is that if the baby is asleep in the car seat, you don't have to wake them to move them. That's the selling point for me. Is that enough on one??
The same is true if you have the Snap n Go - car set snaps right into the frame. The only way you would have to wake the baby is if you did not get an infant carseat and went straight to the convertible kind of seat.
Here is a LINKY.
This exactly!! Right down to the Altima!! I love all the trunk space they have!
Travel system is a lot more convenient because you can snap the infant seat into the stroller without disturbing the baby. Of course, you can just get an infant seat and a snap-n-go and do the same thing. But you won't have the stroller to use after the baby grows out of the infant seat, so you will need to make an additional purchase. We have a small car (Lancer) and my Graco travel system fits just fine in the trunk. For me, it was about what option was most convenient and what I could get the most use out of for the longest period of time. That's why we went with the travel system.
Here's what we got: Carseat
A lot of travel systems are super heavy... but some arent so bad.
Graco Metrolite is 19lbs + infant seat. You can purchase as a system or separate. I had this with DD and loved it. Very lightweight.
Bumbleride Flyer is a lightweight stroller that is compatible with a graco snugride or chicco keyfit. These are a bit pricey $300+
There are options to have a system and "lightweight".. you just have to dig a bit!
This is exactly what we're doing.
My sister got a travel system. They have two small to medium sized sedans and she hates the travel system stroller. Too big and bulky
I will say this till I'm blue in the effing face...NOT ALL TRAVEL SYSTEMS ARE MADE BY GRACO or CHICCO!
I have a "travel system". It's a Maxi Cosi car seat with a Quinny Buzz stroller. The seat of the stroller comes all the way off the frame of the stroller and the car seat attaches to it. It's NOT bulky. The frame is bigger than say a snap n go but it is way smaller than a full size stroller.
There are plenty of options for travel systems that are NOT bulky. If you want to buy a Graco or Chicco or Safety First travel system then yes, it will probably be bulky but not any more bulky than using a Bob (for example) with a car seat attachment. If you want a graco or chicco travel system, do yourself a favor and go to a store where you can test them out and put 10,15,20 pounds worth of stuff in it and take it for a spin and see if you like it.
this is what we have and we love it. i have a new toyota corolla and it fits just fine in my trunk.
We got a Graco Metrolite travel system with DD, and also picked up a Snap-n-Go for $5 at a garage sale. The Metrolite got WAY more use. It is not big/bulky at all... bigger than the SNG, of course, but not bad at all. It also handled much better than the SNG. And we used it even after DD outgrew the infant seat.
The one thing we loved the SNG for was plane travel. There's not much to it, and we got it for so cheap, so I didn't worry about it getting beat up by airline baggage handlers.
If I had to pick between the Metrolite and the SNG, I'd definitely pick the Metrolite. But then again, we aren't really stroller people and got (and still get!) much more use out of our Ergo baby carrier than out of either stroller... so I might not be the best person to ask!
