My husband and I are having a discussion about Child Care. He needs to decide before the end of the year if he wants a 12 hour or 24 hour shift.

 If he takes a 12 hour we wont need child care but he'll come home after working for 12 hours 4 days a week overnight to care for the baby and most likely will be exhausted.

If he takes a 24 hour care 1-2 days a week he'll need to come home after working a 24 hour shift to care for the baby. In this case we'll need child 2 days a week at most.

Any thoughts on this.

I will add that he is a Medic and a lot of his time is spent sitting in an Ambulance. He currently works a 24 hour shift. Most days he comes home and wont go to sleep until that night. He does stuff around the house and watches TV during the day.

I work full time.

DH does too but his schedule is Mon and Thurs in the office. Tuesday and Wednesday, every other Friday at home. The other Friday off..no clue what we are going to do...

so, in the 12 hr shift scenario, he works till 6am and then takes care of baby till when?  i just don't understand when he's going to get to sleep before his 5pm shift starts.

When would he sleep? If he's getting home at 6am he would need to sleep until 1 or 2. Who would take care of the baby then?

Oh wow we hadn't even considered that I wouldn't be home from work in time for him to go work. That solves the Problem. Thanks Girls. We're going with a 24 hour shift!
