  • Wipe down with little dish soap and water in a rag.  Just don't dunk in water! :)

Thats what I do...but does that REALLY kills germs etc..Especially before/after playdates I like to deep clean them with all the hands and mouths and thats what holds me back from wood. Or the money I am all about the cheapest!

Well, IMO, if it disinfects enough to make a dirty dish clean, it'd probably work on wood :)  I use an anti bacterial organic one for J's stuff made by babyganics.

However, if you are really concerned about disinfecting germs a solution of one part good bleach (non clorinated kind, I get 7th gen brand) to 10 parts water would disinfect without hurting the wood.

But think of the lasting value wood has ;)  J is actually getting some refinished wooden toys that DH played with when he was that age, and they could probably last another generation too!

  • When we bought some wood toys for C last Xmas at the wood toy store in the WG, the owners told us that they wood actually had antibacterial properties that made it an excellent choice for a toddler toy.  I have no idea if she was right -- I never did any follow up research -- but it sounded nice to me.  ;)
