DS2 had his 15 month today, so I decided to talk to this dr. (a different one from yesterday) about what happened yesterday. She said that my comment about him being "obsessed" with his car, along with his freak-out reaction to the dr. trying to take his blood pressure was what prompted her to start asking questions about other sensory issues and Aspergers. She asked me how he plays with his cars, and I said we drive them around, and he pretends we are going grocery shopping, getting gas, to CVS etc. She said that kind of pretend play takes a complex thought process and if he were simply just pushing them back and forth saying vroom or just lining them up, sorting by color etc, then they would be worried. But she said based on what i was telling her, she's not worried. She said lots of 3 yo freak out over having their BP taken etc. I told her the other doctor had suggested I talk to his preschool teachers, and she said to be sure not to "lead them into" a certain way of thinking- NOT to go in there saying the doctor has these concerns, but just to ask in general if he is making friends, playing with his friends, playing with toys appropriately etc.
So, in talking with this dr. I do feel a lot less worried- although by the end of last night I was feeling less worried b/c I DO have some training in these areas, I have worked for EI and I knew in my gut there was nothing going on....Ok, thanks again for listening!
Re: Update: My awful 3 year check-up yesterday.....
Yes, regarding the word "obsessed"- that is pretty much what today's doctor said! i will be sure to not use that word in front of any pediatricians anymore!!!!
