If one of your babies needs lactose free......

Do you give the other lactose free, too, or buy two different kinds of formula?

I'm breastfeeding, but have to supplement here and there. Right now, I'm pumping feeding to feeding....no stash build up :o/.

Anyway, one of my girls was given lactose free in the NICU, and I think that's what she'll need now, but I'm not sure about whether to do lactose free for both, or just the one.

Any experiences?

  • DD needs it and I put DS on it just to keep things easy. It doesn't bother him and the pedi said if it wasn't broke, don't fix it. They went on it when they were little over a month old and I was having a hard time keeping up with EP and both babies. No problems here

  • Both of mine are on two different formulas.  Ava is on Alimentum.  Sofia has a milk and soy protein allergy and she is on Neocate.  Both formulas are already digested, but the Neocate is not milk based.  The GI dr told me not to put Ava on it if she didn't really need it.

  • I give it to both of them. WalMart has a store brand of lactose free formula. I have never used it, but my friend who exclusively FFs swears by it.

I am EPing for my twins. I never managed to build up much of a freezer stash and pump to feed, as long as I don't slack off, I have little trouble keeping up with their feeding demands and we use less than 10 oz of formula a week. I have to reduce the lactose in my own diet too or they have evil looking green foamy poop.
