I think it is possible to get a bfp even with a really long cycle. Without medication I have very long cycles. When we first started trying to conceive my general practitioner was able to refer me to a reproductive endocrinologist early because of my long cycles - this is a symptom that allowed her to refer. It turned out I have PCOS and don't ovulate on my own. Just thought I would share in case the long cycles are frustrating for you.
I was having pretty consistent 42 day cycles... got my BFP on CD53. it was torture! guess the month we tried to conceive was the month mother nature decided to torture me with an even longer than long cycle! btw I was not charting.. just got lucky!!
I am a little late to this post, but take a look at my BFP chart. I did not ovulate until CD 40. The cycle before that was even longer (CD 49, I think).
I think what you're asking is "Is it possible to conceive if I have a really long cycle?" I have a really long cycle and I had my BFP for baby 2. Ovulation kits are helpful, just start about 17-18 days before the END of your shorter cycle instead of 14 days after the beginning of your cycle. Also google "physical signs of ovulation" and see if that helps you figure it out.
have wacky cycles and I got my BFP on day 67. Previous tests had all been negative and the only reason I tested again was because my dr prescribed me provera to give me a period. I had no symptoms and I really didn't think that was the cycle but sure enough I finally got a positive!
For several years I consistently had a 38-42 day cycle.. then the month I got pregnant, I used evening primrose oil and vitex for the first time. According to the dating of the pregnancy via ultrasound, I ovulated that month around the time a woman would ovulate with a 28 day cycle. Interesting.
Anyway, yes it can happen. Actually my doc told me 40 day cycle is still technically within a normal range.
Re: 42 day cycle?
My cycles were right around the same as yours...the cycle before BFP was 60 days! I O'd on CD 28 my BFP cycle, and got a positive HPT on CD 40.
It can happen, although it seems to take forever when you have long cycles!

my cycles were long - anywhere from 40-51 days
I ovulated later....so tracking was important to see when I ovulated, etc
