Bought lunch for a soldier yesterday

I was at lunch with my parents and a young couple with a newborn came in. They sat behind us and we overheard them talking about how the baby was just a few days old, and that he'd be leaving soon.

Apparently, he is in the navy and was given a week to come home to see the birth of his daughter. He left this morning for another year out.

I couldn't imagine having to leave my baby right away and not seeing her for that long, much less at Christmas.

So... we bought their lunch.

It just made me really sad. I can't imagine having to have your SO leave right after you have a baby, and I can't imagine having to leave. It really killed me.

These people do such a service for our country and, in my opinion, they don't get thanked enough.

I hope they appreciated it. I didn't stick around for the waitress to tell them that they didn't have to pay...
