Middle Name - Mackenzie (Girl)

DH and I are discussing girl names and so far our favorite is Mackenzie (not sure if we should spell it with a z or and s) but we really need help coming up with a middle name.

Any ideas?  And an opinion on spelling (z or s) would be great too!

Re: Middle Name - Mackenzie (Girl)

  • Personally, I don't like Mackenzie with either spelling, because it's gotten so trendy. ?But if you love it, that's what matters. ?I'd pair it with something super traditional to offset the trendy factor. ?Any mom or grandma names you could use??

  • Here are some middle name ideas:  Leigh, Eve, Claire, Lauren, Lila, Eliza, Bree, Rachel

  • No - I love the idea of family names but they're all way too old fashioned.  We're talking Dolores and Phyllis.  Ugh!  I really liked Ainsley just b/c I'd never heard it before but DH is actually much more traditional.  One of the others he liked was Gracie.  I want it to be unique enough but not super trendy.  I'm completely open to all ideas!

     Thanks for the input.

  • I've always thought Mackenzie Leigh would be cute but I don't think he's crazy about it.
  • I think a 1 syllable MN would go well with Mackenzie since it's such a long name. I prefer a z because that's how it is said.

  • FWIW my MN is McKinsey and I hate that it's spelled with an s. I would do a short MN b/c McKenzie is a long name. I also like Ainsley and Gracie but would not do to names that end in ie/ey. McKenzie Grace is nice.

  • One of our first picks if it is a girl is Mackenzie Elizabeth (a bit long), but how often will she have to write it or how often would we really say her full name. I also don't know anyone with this name, so not to trendy here...

    Mackenzie Rae is pretty too...

Thanks!  I really like Rae!  Good suggestion.

if you're looking for unique but not trendy, i would steer clear of mackenzie. i like gracie and ainsley, and remember that lola is a nickname for dolores (so cute!).

    good luck!

?I want it to be unique enough but not super trendy. ?

    Yeah, avoid Phyllis. ?;)

But I don't think Mackenzie is unique if that's truly what you want. ?With all the McKennas and McKaylas, etc., there are going to be a whole lot of "Mac" girls out there.?

That's true.  Those names have definitely gotten very popular recently.  Back to the drawing board, I guess.  My definition of unique is more like, I don't want it to be weird, like no one has heard of it, but I want it to be somewhat uncommon.  This is the hardest part of the whole pregnancy for me so far :-)

  • My cousin is MacKenzie Rose and I love it.  I think it's so pretty. I've never seen MacKenzie spelled with an s before, but if you like it better it's up to you.

Other names I think sound pretty with MacKenzie:  Grace, Renee

ETA: Sorry, just realized I was capitalizing the K because that's how I"m used to writing it.  Both people I know with this name spell it with a capital K.

  • My little sister is Makenzie Alyssa...i don't like the "ck"
  • I would go with something short- probably one syllable. I like Jane, Jade, Dawn, Grace, Claire, Rose, Paige... They all sound nice, just depends on your style. And I prefer the z.

  • My middle name is MacKenzie. I like it spelled with a "z". If you pronounce it properly then the end should sound like KEN-Z not KEN-SEE hence the "z".

I think Grace would be a cute middle name

  • I love Makenzi Grace and thats how I would spell it.
