Toddlers: 24 Months+

Odd toddler behavior.

It is weird that C got into her closet last night? I went in to check on her and she scared the crap out of me because I could not find her.

The first time made sense, she had to poop.  Will not go #2 in the potty.

The second time she said it was because she was naughty. She was told she was being naughty for drawing on her pajamas with a Sharpie...whole other issue.

The third time she knocked the door off its tracks. TG it did not fall on her!

Freaks me the hell out. I hope this is fleeting oddness.

Does your LO do anything quirky or that bothers you?

Re: Odd toddler behavior.

  • Maybe she just likes to hang out it there ?

  • Toddlers are just weird sometimes.  Can you talk to her about the door issue and let her know it's probably not safe to hide out in the closet?

Maybe she'd like a pop up tent to hide in?

  • LOL YES! For the second day in a row, I walk into her room in the morning and shes crying/pointing at her clothes and diaper on the floor and is NAKED!
  • We actually put a lock on DD's closet door because she got in there one time and got stuck! We don't hang up her clothes, so we just use her closet as storage for now. She climbed up on a box in there and got stuck, so that was the end of her closet adventures!

My DD has become a nose picker. :( She's only allowed to do it in her room and she uses a tissue, but it still grosses me out. I'm hoping that by controlling the environment where it happens, it'll eventually just fade away (or I'll stop hearing her yell, "I'm going to my room to pick!")

  • She has a tent, maybe I will put it in her room tonight.

I am a clinical psych student, right now we are dealing with some really heavy mental issues so I get a little weirded out when she does something maladaptive, lol.

  • speaking off odd toddler behaviors--DD 1 wants to use a spoon or fork to eat everything--and there is no explaining to her that you don't use a spoon to eat pretzels or crackers...I am glad she enjoys silverware but I refuse to cut up her peanutbutter sandwich so she can eat it with a fork :)
  • This is normal behavior for that age.  They are experience wanting to be alone.  Mine lays under the couch, in the corner, under the bed, etc.  I talked to the doctor and he said it is just a stage.  It is just another stage of showing their independence.    It does scare the crap out of you though!!!
  • Mine too.  He tried to eat bacon with a fork this weekend.  LOL
  • Right now it's just weird food combinations. He mixes the grossest stuff together, and it make me gag. Last night we had chicken burgers with sweet potato fries, and I served his bun with butter on the side. He ate the whole thing dipped in ketchup and then added some cottage cheese to the mix and ate that. I so want to tell him to stop, but I don't because I know that it's his business how he wants his food to taste and as long as he's using good manners, I should stay out of it. At least he's eating. But it makes me want to hurl.
  • My DD is about the same age and is in a hiding stage. She likes cozy corners and spots. She cannot get into her closet or ours most of the time because they are child proofed. But if I leave mine open...you can bet she finds her way in and starts going through all my old purses to find treasure.

As far as irking me....between yesterday and this morning half the stuff she does is what I tell her not to. GAWD. She had my blood boiling before 7:30am this morning. LOL.

  • Um my crazy girl got out of her big girl bed and climbed in her TOY BOX to sleep and then closed the door. We found her this way after we heard noises in her room?! We promptly removed the toy box aka coffin from our little vampire's room.

    ;)
