E-meal- ia
or
Em-i-leah
I really love the name Amelia, but I also really love the nickname Emmie and thought maybe I could put an E instead of an A at the beginning. Just not sure it would get said correctly.
or how about Emilia??
Thanks for any and all input! ![]()
Re: How would you pronounce Emelia
E-meal-ia
BFP #1 11/28/09 ~ EDD 8/6/10 ~ DS Born 8/9/10
BFP #2 8/27/13 ~ EDD 5/8/14 ~ Natural MC 9/18/13 at 6 weeks, 6 days
BFP#3 3/28/14 ~ EDD 12/7/14 ~ DD Born 11/21/14
BFP#4 6/15/17 ~ EDD 2/20/18
The second...like Amelia but with an Eh sound at the beginning.
I'd pronounce it roughly the same as I'd pronounce Amelia.
For the record - I strongly considered naming DD Amelia, with every intention of calling her Emmie. I went to college with a girl who had the name and used that nickname (Emmy). I don't think you have to use a funky spelling to get the nickname you want...
Ditto.?
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
DD is Amelia...pronounced Ah-meal-ya
Id pronounce Emelia E-meal-ya
I dont like how Emilia looks
Why cant you do Amelia but still call her Emmie? I know an Amelia who is called Amy and another who is Mia.......
Eh-meal-ia, I would think. It's one of those names I would say cautiously if I were reading off of a list, because I can think of a few different pronounciations that might be it.
Some people use it as a Spanish name, which is cool, and is very legit. I really don't like it as an Emily/Amelia hybrid, though. I love both Emily and Amelia separately, but I really wouldn't reccomend combining them--they really lose their classic charm.
As an Emily myself, I can say that personally, I never cared for the nickname Emmie/Emmy after age four. I realize that is not a universal sentiment, as there are some adults that are fine with being called Emmie. Still, I wouldn't change the spelling of a name to accomodate a nickname that may be short-lived.
Eh-meal-ia
But it looks misspelled to me - I much prefer Emilia
E-meal- ia
Don't spell in Emilia, I think that is what will get you the wrong pronounciation... the i will throw people off! Good luck!
E-meal-ia
I had a friend in high school that spelled it this way and some people pronounced it E-meal-ia, others pronounced it Amelia.
