If your DC wears underwear to bed

What time does he/she go to bed? And when do you eat dinner?

DS used to go to bed at 8:30 and we had no problems at all with bedwetting, but then I moved his bedtime way up to 7-7:30 because he seemed too tired. The problems is that we both work FT and he goes to preschool FT, so eating dinner much before 5:30 is nearly impossible. And he went to bed at 8 one day while my parents were here for Thanksgiving and was way overtired, so I don't think we can make bedtime much later than 7:30. Gah.

We've had probably 4 accidents in the past week, and I need to figure this out ASAP. I am SO sick of doing laundry I want to weep.

Re: If your DC wears underwear to bed

  • Any chance you could wake him up to pee before you go to bed?  I'm not much help, because Evan still wakes up with a soaked pull up every morning, and he's almost 4.  I've heard of several people say they had to wake their kids up once to prevent accidents at night.

  • We usually eat dinner around 5:30 or 5:45. The kids go to bed around 7:30 or 8. I usually try to keep my son from drinking anything past 7 if possible. He always goes to the bathroom before his bath (after dinner) and before bedtime. For the most part, it's all good.

  • Well, we eat between 5:30-6pm.  Kyle goes to bed around 8pm.  I swear he can hold it forever though.  I think some kids have bigger bladders than others.  Try waking him up to pee before you go to bed, maybe.  GL!
  • As long as he has 2 hours between dinner and bed, he seems to be able to hold it with no problems. But less than that and we're in trouble.

  • Ugh, I so hate to get him out of bed, but perhaps it's our best option. Thanks everybody!

  • Sam is almost 4, but we've been following this fschedule or about a year & gave up nighttime diapers about two weeks after he was potty trained during the day.

He goes to be around 9. He takes a two hour nap at preschool. I wish he didn't have the nap & we could put him to bed at 8ish, but it's preschool policy to have them lay down with the lights off, so he invariably naps. :-)

We eat dinner around 6. He drinks milk/water until about 15 minutes before bed. We take him to the bathroom before he gets into bed. Probably once/week he gets himself up & uses the bathroom in the night. When he was younger, we used to help him get redressed, back to bed, etc.

  • We eat dinner around 6 and DD is usually in bed by 7. She usually sleeps 12 hours, so she gets up at 7 a.m. I don't limit her drinks at dinner and sometimes she drinks water right before bed and still doesn't wet the bed. I take no credit for that, though, she just was ready and doesn't pee often during the day.

Can you tell how recently he's peed when he wets the bed (like does it seem that he just did it, or is it cold and hours-old)? Any chance you could put a little potty in his room or remind him that if he has to pee, he can get up and use the bathroom?

Hope you can figure it out soon!

my brother had to do this with my oldest nephew.

we have dinner at 6, sometimes dd has a glass of water at 7 (1/2 glass).. she's in bed by 8.  but if she goes in the night, she wakes and just goes to the bathroom now.  When she first started wearing undies at night, I put a potty on a towel in her room so she could quickly go if she needed to. but she can hold it like a racehorse.  we went into the city last week and she held it for a LONG time.

  • My DS was potty trained during the day when he was about 22 months old. He just turned 3 and we switched him to underwear from pull-ups at night. We only did this because he seemed to stay dry in the mornings for nearly 2 weeks. Before that time, no matter what we did (time to sleep, drinks, trips to the toilet) it was anybody's guess as to whether he would wake up soaked or dry. I honestly still don't know if he'd wake up in the middle of the night to go, but he does manage to hold it from about 7pm to about 7 am. We eat dinner about 5 or 5:30 most nights, and he usually doesn't drink much after dinner, other than maybe one sip of water before bed. I do make him go immediately before storytime/bed.

  • We eat dinner around 5:30.

DS goes to bed at 8:30.

I limit drinks to just a few sips here and there between dinner and bedtime.

DS sometimes wakes up once in the night anytime between midnight and 3 am to pee.

However, DS often sleeps through the night until 7 am without wetting the bed. He will wet the bed every once in a great while if he didn't get up in the middle of the night though.
