What else can I take besides Clomid?

If all goes well at the appt. on Tuesday and cyst has shrunk enough, my RE wants to proceed with the same protocol we did last time- 50 mg of Clomid CD 5-9, Ovidrel and IUI. ?This will be my 5th and I think final round of Clomid since we are suppose to meet with RE after this next cycle to discuss again. ?The last time I took Clomid I was a major moody b*tch, had really bad head aches, and hot flashes. ?Each cycle the side effects have been getting worse so I am afraid to do this one. ?

What else could I take? ?I am afraid to make a switch though because I did respond well last time, just didn't get pregnant. ?Any ideas? ?What else have you taken? ?Would you switch or just buck up and deal with the side effects? ?

Re: What else can I take besides Clomid?

  • I was on 5 mg of Femera for CD3-7. I had no s/e, and ended up with 1 good follie. But, I've never been on Clomid, so I don't know what kind of results I would have had on that medicine. Our RE did say if this cycle wasn't a success they would be increasing the dosage of Femera in order to try and get at leas 2 Follie's. Good Luck!!!

  • I got my bfp with 5 mg of Femara with Ovidrel after having no response on Clomid.  I had only very mild side effects with Clomid and none with Femara.

    Good luck!

  • If you want to stay on orals then request Femara. I reponded the same (if not better) on Femara and I had no s/e's.
  • I agree with that Femara might be a good next step.  I did respond to clomid, but only sporatically.  However, my lining was so thin, especially on my last clomid cycle, that my RE was sure it couldn't sustain a pregnancy.

I found Femara to be s/e free, and it worked for me the first time on it.

If the side effects are that bad on clomid, I think it can't hurt to ask your RE about it, though some docs are hesitant because its use as a fertility drug is off-label and there's all sorts of warnings about taking it while pregnant. That could be why your RE wants to keep trying clomid.

  • I also recommend Femara. I did not respond to clomid and had horrible s/e. The only s/e I've had on femara (at least I think it's due to the femara) is dizziness at night when I'm in bed. I've now ovulated the last 3 months on 5mg.

    GL!
