If you buy a real Christmas tree

How much do you pay for one and do you cut it down yourself? We usually go to a place that you cut your own down, for $25 dollars all trees. We were going to try a new place near us, they want $60 for a tree? Is that expensive? I think it is, but that's b/c we always paid $25. Just curious to see what you pay.

  • #30 at Home Depot.  lol.  I remember my parents would get one already cut and it would be in the $20-40 range... when we'd go to one of those cut 'em down, ride the tractor back places it was always much more.
  • The local Food Lion grocery store always has awesome trees for $30 or less. And they usually have coupons.

    I wouldn't pay $60 for a tree.

  • We have a bunch of little tree lots pop up in our downtown.  I would say the average price is $60.
  • It depends on where you get it and if you cut your own....and there is such a wide range of prices around here.  We are going to this place way up north that are charging $12 a tree for both precut and cut your own.  So it can be as low as $12 all the way up to $60.

  • I'm jealous.  We have paid close to $200 for trees down here.  I grew up in New England and couldn't face having a fake tree, but just a little 6-7' tree is almost $200 plus their mostly dead b/c they were cut back in October or something and never take any water or anything.  Depressing as it is, I got a fake tree this year.  I cried when DH put it up, but I just couldn't keep spending the money.  I wanna move...or at least have cheap trees again.
  • I think it really depends. We paid $40 for a precut tree this year, but it was from a "cut your own farm" that literally cuts them the day before they sell them. They last a ton longer. I'd pay $60 for one from a place like that, depending on the variety of tree. I'd never pay that much from a tree lot at Steins or something, though. Not that there is anything wrong with those trees, but they aren't nearly as fresh.

  • We used to pay about $20 at a cut-your-own farm for a white pine, I think.  They didn't have any of those last year (they were phasing them out), and we ended up paying $40 or $45 for a Douglas Fir.  Way more than I wanted to spend.

  • Here it depends on the tree.

I think last year the Douglas fir tree was maybe $20. We, instead, bought a Frasier fir tree and that was like $35. We cut it ourselves. There were other trees there that were up to $50 - 60 that you cut yourself.

  • We paid $60 at a cut your own farm. Our tree was 10' this year but I think it is the same price no matter how tall the tree..
