RP: Night wakings in 2 yo

I posted earlier this am about my 2 yo waking frequently ( 5x) crying in the middle of the night. One person suggested that it cold be night terrors. I was wondering if you all notice a difference in sleep patterns when your child is thrown out of routine for a day or two. Today he is tired and layed on his bedroom floor for a while. He is getting a cold, but des not have a fever or any other symptoms. Advice?

  • DD was that way the other night and had an ear infection, no fever just waking a lot. When DD doesn't nap she actually sleeps better, when she does nap it takes her forever to fall asleep and then wakes up earlier.

I hope it is not an EI. He just had tubes placed a week ago and the left was infected at that time. We've been doing the drops. Should I call the pedi?

  • Maybe its night terrors if he just had tubes placed. Maybe call your pedi and see what they say. They might was to see him just to make sure its nothing w/ his ears.

  • This happened with us with our older DS right around age 2.  We think that it was some form of "night terrors" b/c he was basically just scared.  I had read that they become more aware of their surroundings around this age so its not uncommon.  Our solution was to purchase MOBY (a huggable nightlight that they take into bed) and we told him that MOBY was magical and protected him at night (no flames please!).  It has been a year and our son still sleeps with his MOBY nightlight and we haven't had any problems since.  Honestly, we went weeks with him getting up 5+ times per night and the first night we gave him MOBY he slept through the night again and never went back...  my younger son is 13 months and I am already thinking about getting another to have on hand just to be prepared.  Good luck!
