I have been really thinking about switching to cloth diapers, but I haven't made the leap yet. I feel so overwhelmed with everything that's out there. I just can't wrap my brain around what I need to do to make the switch. I need to buy some type of diaper, buy something to clean the diapers, buy something to put in the diapers to absorb, etc. Ugh...it just seems too difficult to start doing, but for some reason I really want to try it. Is it worth it to even think about starting to cloth diaper when my son is almost 10 months old? Tell me why you love cloth diapering...and how you learned about everything out there and how you tried things without breaking the bank and how much time it takes to cloth diaper as opposed to using a disposable. I really appreciate it. I have no idea where to start.
Re: Switching 2 cloth diapers this late in the game?
I'm thinking about it, too! I figure we spend close to $50 a month on diapers now, so they will certainly not be any more expensive than sposies. And if we have more kids, they will save us money.
I do agree that there is an overwhelming amount of info and types out there. I've actually bought a few second hand to try, and want to get a few more different kinds to figure out which ones I'm going to buy. I'm thinking in January (after the holiday expenses) we're going to make our investment.
The few I have so far are not really that difficult to use (fuzzi buns pockets and bum genius pockets).
Jillians Drawers has a trial program that for $10 you can try several styles and brands of cloth for 3 weeks and returned the used diapers.

Depending which system you go with how much you will spend. I love the fact that we wont be buying anymore diapers ever for DD. We have used cloth since 3 weeks. We have gone through a couple of systems. COtton Babies has some big sales right now on Bum Genius, Flip and Econobums.
For cleaning the poop, you don't need a fancy system we use rubber gloves, and a hose on our utility sink or shake in the toilet. I just use a regualar diaper pail for the dirties. You can do it!
It is worth it.

These diapers are great! No blow outs, no leaks, easy for all of our family to use.
Our whole family thought we were nuts when we said that we were going to CD. They have all changed their minds. Our friends with (older) kids wish they would have done it. If you plan on having more than one child - you will save so much money too.
Our CD's have been *free* since E was 4 months old.
I started CDing DD @ 8 months. I was overwhelmed too!
I went to www.kellyscloset.com & purchased a few of the Gro Baby systems for $16.22 (they are not returnable). I also purchased 12 prefolds & 2 covers (Bummis) along with some snappies to hold them on. Between these two options DH & I decided we did like the systems better & prefolds would be used when necessary. I just made another purchase for 4 more systems & extra snap-ins along with 4 bumgenius bamboo one size diapers for the nights.
All-in-all we have spent $190 for 4 days of diapers. We didn't go with the fancy sprayer, just shake them in the toilet - not a big deal at all. We did however purchase a pail liner made by the Natural Baby Co.
I will never use disposables again.
