Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

14 months and not clapping?

I know, I know all kids are different, but please make me feel better. My almost 14 month old does not clap. At all. I have tried to teach him and all he does now is take my wrists and try to clap my hands together instead of clapping his own. Please tell me there are other 14 monthers who do not clap and that I don't need to worry.

Re: 14 months and not clapping?

  • My ds doesn't clap. He thinks it's hilarious when we do, but he won't do it. He walks, talks, waves, points, a million other things - so I'm not worried!

  • My DS just learned to clap about 1 month ago. He'll do it when he is ready.

  • DS didn't clap until he was like 18 months old. Like the PP he did a million other things but had no interest in clapping. I thought it was odd because everything you reads mentions that kids should clap but he was fine in the end.
  • Our DS does the same thing. When we say clap hands he either slams his hands on ground, table etc, or he takes my hands and claps them.
  • DS started clapping last month at 14 months old. He still doesn't point though.
