We received a strange invitation and I am too curious to even think about not going.
The invitation was made by phone to my DH, so some of the details may be lost when he passed it on to me. We have been invited to the home of one of DH's college professors this Sunday at 2pm. According to DH, his professor simply said "We would love to have you over to our house this Sunday..." Dh doesn't know what the occasion is (assuming an early Christmas gathering, maybe?) although I guess it could even be a retirement party? DH mentioned that there is one other classmate invited. I don't know the degree of formality, if it's for a meal, or anything else.
Here's the weird part, DH graduated from college 15 years ago and has had limited contact with this man. We run into him maybe every other year at an industry party and make small talk for 10 minutes or so. DH has never known this guy socially outside of school. He is a VERY reknowned expert in his subject matter and is somewhat of a globetrotting socialite. We can't figure out why we've been invited to his home.
Anyway--what would you wear? Post pictures and websites if you can.
Re: How do I dress for this?
That is a tough one. At 2:00, I would assume no meal, and figure an open house-type gathering is what you've been invited to. I would go with a cute skirt and nice top. Nothing too fancy, but definitely not casual. I would be curious about it too! (And my DH is terrible at relaying details of these types of things, so I get it on losing some details.)
Have fun!
I wouldn't go too dressy. It sounds like a casual afternoon gathering and college professors are notorious for dressing down anyway.
Wear a nice denim trouser or pair of black or brown pants with a nice sweater, or a cute top with a cardigan. Really, you're just going over to this guy's house in the afternoon.
