regifting ?

So I have the V-tech thing that MIL got DS years ago (the one for 9-36 mths).  Well we never set it up or used it but even have extra cartridges for it.  Anyways our friends have a 1 yr old and I am wondering if I can regift this to them or is that tacky?  They would only know because it does look like it was opened but that's about it.  WDYT?
