Just lurking and saw your question. I nurse in the side-lying position pretty much every night. Because I am lazy and it's just TOO convenient to pass up. In any case, the way I do it is lay the baby next to me with his head and feet positioned parallel to mine (except he's much shorter..lol). I make sure his head is around near where my boob is and that we are facing one another.
I have him latch on the side I'm laying on aka the side closest to the bed. So if I lay on my left side, I have him latch on my left boob. Once I get him latched on and positioned, I usually use my arm as a makeshift pillow for my head and to make myself more comfy.
