Baby Showers

rsvp??

i've been to several showers and parties where people don't rsvp. I've even known them to call the person who the party/shower is for instead of calling the hostess. I don't know why for my shower I thought it would be different. Anyway we invited abour 60 people and only 15-20 have rsvp'd so fa,r should I be worried? How many should the hostess plan for? My shower is this Sunday. And so far only one item has been purchased off my registry.

Re: rsvp??

  • I would definitely plan for more than 15 or 20 people. Some people just don't take those things seriously...not sure why not.

Don't worry too much about the shower gift....if they're anything like me they'll be picking up gifts on the way to the shower.

  • Your hostess needs to call those people that have not RSVP'd.  She can just explain to them she is trying to make sure there is enough seating and food.

  • Your hostess needs to start calling people.  THey don't RSVP, they get a call saying "Hey- just wanted to find out if yo uplan on coming to the shower this weekend!".

    Absolutely nothing wrong w/ this.

  • When were they told to rsvp by?  If it's after that day, I would have the hostess give them a call.
  • My date was Sunday.  I called or emailed the people that did not respond. My hostess doesn't know them and, quite frankly, I want to embarass them. Failing to rsvp is the epitome of rude.

  • It is the responsibility of the hostess to call them (whether she knows them or not) not you.  So...you think embarrassing them will cause them to come?  People don't really get embarrassed about not RSVPing IMO...they jsut don't "get" it period.  I wonder if half the people even know what it means!
  • No, I don't want to embarass them into coming.  I want them to have to explain to ME why they didn't pick up the phone and call.  At my bridal shower, there were 2 women who showed up that had not responded.  I took them my the arm, told them we didn't think they were coming since they didn't respond but would do our best to find them a seat. Embarassment accomplished.

  • This always makes me so mad!  I am have thrown a baby shower and a bridal shower to which I had this issue each time.  With the bridal I made phone calls.  With the baby I sent emails and my dad made phone calls (gotta love papa - the shower was for my sister!)
