WWBOTBD? (longish)

So, the jewelry store we normally shop at, get my ring cleaned, etc sent us an invitation to an exclusive Christmas Party Sale.  Basically you can spend $1000 and save $300.

DH and I are not doing Christmas presents and I was not expecting a "push" present of any kind. We are trying to save as much money as we can for baby and a vacation in Feb.

BUT....

DH comes up to me this morning and says, "I was going to surprise you but since we are being so careful with money I didn't want you to get upset. I think we should go to this Sale and get you some earings to celebrate our first baby." 

We would pay cash out of our savings, half out of DH's personal savings and half out of our joint savings account.  DH really wants to do something to celebrate our first baby and obviously I'm not going to be upset about getting a pair of diamond studs.  I have a feeling even if I say no, he will end up doing something anyways.

Would you guys go for it?

If you feel like he's going to do something anyway, and you can afford it, at least you could help pick out something you'd like, I guess. 

For us, there would be no way I could ever (within the forseeable future) justify spending $1000 on earrings.

I wouldn't, but I'm not a big jewelry person.  The only pieces I wear on a regular basis are my e- and wedding rings, my confirmation ring, and my KIA rememberance bracelet.  For me it would be a big waste of money (luckily DH knows this and hasn't gotten me any new jewelry in a while).  If I wore more jewelry than perhaps I would go for it.

I am not a huge jewelry person besides my wedding rings and earrings.

If we did anything it would be diamond studs that I never take out and wear ALL.THE.TIME.

If he does something on his own, he might be tempted to do a necklace or something and while that would be nice I would much rather have the earrings.

Sounds like I am talking myself into this. lol

So basically you only are spending $700 instead of $1000?

It's still a lot, but for a nice pair of diamond studs that you will wear every day for the rest of forever and will be in honor of the birth of your first child.... I think I'd do it.

I think it's sweet for DH to want to do this. I would go for it. But don't buy something unless you absolutely love it!

I would not spend $700 on jewelry. MAYBE if it was unexpected/extra money...but I would not use savings. But then again I am not a jewelry person and we tend to not use savings for gifts and such.

If you have a LOT in savings maybe...but still 700 seems a lot for earrings but I'm cheap! I always think of other things I can do with that money like: New Roof, tracttor, pay down the car, new weedeater, landscaping, buying fruit trees for an orchard etc.

Things that would benefit us both and our home versus would look pretty on me.

I guess I should note DH's savings is his "play" money and so is our Joint savings. It's not our emergency fund.

We will see. I'll think about it, I just don't want to say no and then have him go spend a little less or close to equal amount on something that I won't like as much.

I got a diamond anniversary band in honor of our first baby and I LOVE IT!!! It was at least that expensive but I always wear it.  I actually want one for each baby so I can stack them...so I'm the wrong person to ask!
