I am 28. I will be 29 tomorrow. (any other 20-somethings out there?) I get the "When will you have kids?" question almost daily. DH and I have made the decision not to tell anyone that we are TTC. So, I answer, "When the good Lord gives us kids" (we're not really religious, but this statement seems both polite and elusive) Then, people tell me that I am young and that we should wait awhile. This totally annoys me. We both have college educations, very good careers, own a home, and are married. We want kids. Why wait?
Wow, I should submit myself for the MTV show "16 and Pregnant".
Re: I'm annoyed
When people used to ask me about babies, I used to pretend I couldn't hear them. Like, "What? What? I'm sorry, I can't understand what you are saying."
They laughed, but they also got the point.
Love it!
Happy Birthday in advance!
Yes, people always feel the need to stick their heads all up in my uterus, too. I've stopped being annoyed, you just have to roll with it!
At least they're not telling you you're too old and you should get on with it, right? That would suck.
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!
My pregnancy after Infertility Blog
Our baby girl was born on April 27, 2011!
Love & luck to my 3TC girls. Congrats to Omega-The boys are here!
If there's one thing I've learned while waiting my turn,
it's that in each life some rain falls but you also get some sun.
After 2 years & 2 losses, our little man arrived 8-2011.
This is awesome.
To OP, I too always get this question. I am 29, will be 30 in March. I usually just tell people that we are waiting until after I turn 30. I have no idea what I am going to say if I am not pregnant after I turn 30 though.
LOL, hi HRM.
I'm 27 and am just now starting to get those questions. We're married and just bought our first home in '07 so I guess it's "the next step", especially when our circle of friends are all starting to have kids. My answer is "Well, I have to pay off school first..." which is partially true since I have about 2 years of payments left on a loan. That pretty much shuts people up.
It's probably best that you worded it the way you did, because I think if you told people you were TTC they'd be asking every few weeks "So? Anything yet?" which I would think would be waaaay more annoying.
I get the "too young" comments all the time. No, don't consider that my husband and I each have two degrees, that our cars are paid off, or that we own a home and are employed in great fields. We want kids, too. Why wait? I teach, and I actually still get asked for my hall pass. Oh, and I wish people would stop feeding me the, "Oh, but you will LOVE looking young when you get older!". Really? When I am 40 I will still look 30? Fantastic. That helps the fact that you just thought I was a teenage mom wannabe.
I needed to vent...thanks.
Thanks for being my ally! I just get so dumbfounded when people ask such rude questions and THEN proceed to tell me that I am too young! WTF? Most of them are middle-aged women who had at least 2 kids by my age. So, 29 is the new 19? right?
And, I am def going to play dumb next time. However, sometimes, I want to say something completely rude and gross in return, "DH and I go at it like jack rabbits day and night, we especially like doggy-style, then after he finishes, he helps me to stand on my head"...
My response is pretty similar in that I always say, "we'll have kids whenever the good Lord decides to bless us with some!" I find that I get a lot less pressure that way, and it's a daily reminder to me that it is not up to me--it's up to God!
Every now and then I'll get brave and say, "I don't know when we'll have kids but we're sure having fun trying!" That's for when I really need to shut up an annoying relative.
I still can't believe how people think another couple having children is ANY of their business! ?It is so personal, and people asking you about trying is just talking about your sex life. ?
I saw someone respond to one of these posts once, telling them to use the response ~ "When we stop doing anal." ? Ha, I would love to try this one sometime and shut people up.
